The Future’s Bright with Cree’s XHP50 and XHP70 Extreme High
Power LEDs Now at Mouser
December 22, 2014 – Mouser Electronics, Inc., the global authorized distributor with the newest
semiconductors and electronic components, is now stocking the XHP50 and XHP70 XLAMP® LEDs from
Cree. Setting a new standard in lighting-class LED performance with the introduction of one of the industry’s
first Extreme High Power (XHP) LEDs, the XHP50 and XHP70 are a new generation of Cree XLAMPs that
incorporate its innovative SC5 Technology™, a platform that doubles the lumens, or light output, of a single
LED. This provides lighting manufacturers with the flexibility to significantly reduce thermal, mechanical and
optical costs up to 40 percent at the system level.
The Cree XHP50 and XHP70 XLAMP LEDs, available from Mouser Electronics, are the first LEDs
powered by Cree’s revolutionary silicon carbide SC5 Technology Platform. This platform provides twice the
lumen output and improved reliability compared to previous LEDs of the same size. The XHP50 and XHP70
use fewer, more reliable LEDs to achieve the same brightness, thereby drastically reducing the size and
cost of a lighting system. Cree’s XHP LEDs enable engineers to design new lighting projects with less
optics, a smaller printed circuit board, a smaller housing and minimized handling. Developers can also
reduce heat sink size and cost, since these XHP LEDs achieve longer lifetimes even at higher operating
temperatures and currents than previous LED technology – all without impacting the rated L90 lifetime of
50,000 hours (LED produces 90% of brightness after 50,000hrs).
Cree’s XHP50 delivers up to 2,546 lumens at 19 watts from a 5.0 mm x 5.0 mm package, whereas the
XPH70 provides up to 4,022 lumens at 32 watts from a 7.0 mm x 7.0 mm package. Both XHP LEDs offer
reduced LED-to-LED color variations, are available in ANSI White and EasyWhite® 2-step and 3-step color
temperatures ranging from 2,700 K up to 7,000 K, and offer a minimum Color Rendering Index or CRI of 70,
80 and 90. The XHP50 and XHP70 devices also offer a unique and innovative package option that allows
developers to choose either 6V or 12V configurations from the same LED through the solder pad design on
the circuit board.
The XLamp XHP50 and XHP70 devices from Cree are now available for purchase through Mouser
