Law enforcement nationwide
has been under a harsh spotlight of late. The officers and
staff of the Faribault Police Department remain committed to
serving all citizens of Faribault.
We realize the public trust and
responsibilities that have been
placed on us, and we do not
bear that burden lightly. We
appreciate all of the public support received in recent weeks.
Inevitably, we will make missteps. Officers, after all, are
human, too. We will humbly

take responsibility for those
times. We accept that we are
held to a higher standard. We
do not always get it right, but
that is our never-ending goal to give the citizens our best and
to always keep improving. Contrary to recent editorial cartons
printed in our local newspaper,
we work to fulfill our duties
fairly, operating under the rule
of law. We all take an oath to
uphold the Constitution, and
are mindful of the great freedoms afforded to all. We also
strive to put aside personal
issues and remain fair, objective
and professional in our service.
Not everyone will be happy
with every outcome. But each
call for service will receive the
best we can give it. At the end
of the day, the men and women
of FPD are here to protect the
lives and property of the citizens
we serve. We take no pride in
having to use force and our goal
is always to resolve things as
peacefully as possible.
Merry Christmas, Chase!
We were contacted this week
by Vested Interest in K9s, Inc.
They received an anonymous
gift which would provide a ballistic vest for our K9 Officer,
Chase. The vest will be embroidered with “Memory of
Gary Pearson, North Memorial
Medical Center”.
Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. is a
501c (3) charity located in East
Taunton, MA, whose mission is
to provide bullet and stab protective vests and other assis-
tance to dogs of law enforcement and related agencies
throughout the United States.
The nonprofit was established in
2009 to assist law enforcement
agencies with this potentially life
-saving body armor for their
four -legged K9 Officers.
Through private and corporate
sponsorships, Vested Interest in
K9s, Inc. provided over 1198
law enforcement dogs in 40
states with protective vests
since 2009. We are truly grateful for this gift of support!
The Police Department lobby will be closing at noon, Wednesday, December
24. We will be closed all day, Thursday, December 25 for Christmas.

Tracks Betray Burglar
On December 18th, Officer
Ben Johns took a report of a
storage locker that had been
burglarized. Ofc. Johns collected photos of shoe prints and
bicycle tire tracks from the
scene. He later learned, from
members of the Cannon River Drug and Violent Offender Task Force, that
some of the stolen property
may be at a residence that they
had recently searched for two
fugitives. Ofc. Johns showed
the victim photos of an ice
auger that the agents had seen
at the residence and suspected
was stolen. The victim positively identified the auger as his.
The next day, Detective
Scott Duncan obtained a
search warrant for the residence. Assisted by Detective
Matt
Kolling and the
CRDVOTF agents, the officers
recovered the stolen ice auger.
They also checked the shoes of
the suspect, Nicholas Norstad,
and found that the shoes
matched tracks at the scene.
Norstad was arrested and
jailed. He was charged with 3rd
Degree Burglary, and his bail
was set at $20,000 without
conditions.

Domestic Assault Arrest
On Saturday, December 21st,
Officers Tony Kuchinka,
Ben Johns and Lisa Petricka
were dispatched to check on a
woman that appeared to have
been assaulted. The officers
met with the woman, who told
the officers that she had gotten
into an argument with her
boyfriend. She attempted to
leave, but found he had removed the spark plugs from
the car. The officers noted an
injury on her nose, and she
told the officers that she was
bitten by the suspect. When
the officers attempted to arrest
the suspect, he actively resisted
being handcuffed. He kicked at
the officers, kicking one in the
chest and knee, and grabbed
another in a choke hold. The
officers used a Taser to gain
control of the suspect, Joseph
Haefs, 28. He was jailed and
charged with 4th Degree Assault and Felony Domestic
Assault. His bail was set at
$30,000 without conditions.
