The Aldenham Annual Fund
2014/15
The Aldenham Annual Fund 2014/15
For the Whole School
To my absolute delight our annual appeal
last year exceeded the target we set and I
am extremely grateful to everyone who
contributed. Now, as we launch the
Aldenham Annual Fund 2014/15, I would
like to invite you once again to help us
raise a minimum of £32,000 towards
equipment and bursaries to further improve
the learning environment for our current
students.
In this centenary year of the outbreak of the Great War we will
be thinking deeply about those who gave their lives in conflict
and we want to establish a fitting memorial to display the names
of the Old Aldenhamians who died in World War II. This roll of
honour will hang in the School Chapel along with the one we
already have listing the 163 names of former pupils and masters
who died in the 1914-18 war.
I hope that you will be able to help us to achieve our goal to
provide the items listed in this brochure. A donation of any
size would be very much appreciated and will help enable us
to continue to provide the ‘excellent, all round education’ that
has become synonymous with Aldenham School. Please take
a look to see how you may be able to support the appeal.
James Fowler Headmaster
We would like to remember the Old
Aldenhamians who fell in the Second
World War with a memorial similar to the
tribute in the Chapel to the people we lost
in the Great War. Alan Gelson (SHE195661) made the suggestion and we agree that
a roll of honour should be clearly visible
to all who pass through the School.
In this special centenary year of the
outbreak of the First World War everyone
at Aldenham School was involved in
creating a cascade of poppies at the door of
the memorial Library. This art installation
was reflected in the Chapel above the Book
of Remembrance for Second World War
victims, which was moved forward and
decorated with similar, clay poppies. A
permanent feature listing 116 names will
be very appropriate.
•Second World War Memorial £6,000
For the Prep School
For the Senior School
The children love working outside and
Woodland School is popular with everyone.
The Headteacher, Mrs Vicky Gocher, would
like to have a circle of seating in the
outdoor classroom.
•Outdoor seating £3,000
The pupil led Eco Committee has asked for
resources and storage facilities to help them
achieve the Eco-Schools green flag.
•Eco-School resources £800
The class teachers would like to be able
to project clear images and activities onto
interactive white boards. To do this they
need a visualiser in every classroom. These
clever little electronic intstuments can bring
the simplest thing – like threading a needle –
to life on a big screen and allow the children
to show their work to the whole class.
•6 Visualisers £1,200
Design and Technology is popular at
Aldenham, largely due to the modern
equipment available to help students
design and create their pieces of work.
A 3D printer would further enhance the
resources on hand.
•3D Printer £5,000
Film Club continues to be a popular
activity at Aldenham. Our budding film
makers would benefit from new cameras
and equipment to improve the quality of
their productions.
•Cameras for filmmaking £1,200
By studying Psychology our students begin
to understand people’s thoughts and
behaviours. An electroencephalogram (EEG)
records electrical activity along the scalp and
would enable students to see and understand
what is going on in an active brain.
•EEG for recording brain activity £4,000
Geography field trips provide opportunities
for hands-on learning and we are keen to
provide the latest, most advanced technology
for measuring and monitoring data.
•Flow Meters £1,000
Music and Drama
Aldenham’s Music and Drama Departments
continue to produce some excellent
performances. We would like to buy new
practice instruments and upgrade the show
monitoring and relaying equipment.
•Practice piano £2,500
•Show monitoring and relay
equipment £1,500

A memorial tree for Cyril Tyson (CR 1952-87) planted by his family.
For the Whole School
Over £5,000 was donated last year for
mature trees. We are looking forward to
spring 2015 when bulbs, also given as a
gift, will bloom in the new woodland area.
We plan to plant more trees when we can.
A Gift in your Will
Sport
This year the Sports Department plans
to move the electronic scoreboard from
the Cricket Pavilion to a purpose built
cricket score box with storage facilities
and provide more resources for hockey
coaching.
•Cricket score box £5,000
•Hockey equipment £800
For Bursaries
Donations to Bursaries will be used to
increase the number of pupils who may
benefit from an Aldenham education and
would otherwise not be able to.
We are grateful to those who remember
Aldenham in their Will and so help the
School to thrive in the future. Richard
Platt, the founder of Aldenham School, left
orders for the establishment of the School
in his Will and more recently Kenneth Eric
Flatt (M 1933-36) has made a substantial
gift to the School.
Please let us know if you plan to leave
a gift in your Will to Aldenham, by
contacting the Development and OA Office,
