GENERAL INFORMATION
Mission
COFFEE & cOOKIES
Green Valley Senior Games provides information, incentive,
and inspiration to people 50 years and over to become and
stay fit, by engaging in a regular program of physical and
mental and sport activities. Participation with friends is
encouraged in all events.

Eligibility
Monday, March 2 2015 11:00am-1:00pm West Center
Our “Kick Off Event” for the 2015 Senior Games includes:
hot dog, chips & drinks, a chance to meet with the
coordinators of the various events and our wonderful
sponsors, and take a spin on the prize wheel.
All Participants must be 50 years of age or older.
Age is determined as of March 1, 2015.
Open to the public.

Entry Fees
$20 per person, which includes a T-shirt.
$5 - $10 per person per event entry fee.

Tuesday, February 18, 2015 at 3:00pm.
Registration not accepted after the deadline.
Confirmations
Registration confirmations will be mailed to the participants
who send in their registration by mail. For corrections call
(520) 625-3440, x7216 on or before February 22, 2015. You
must bring your confirmation to each event and show it
when checking in, as this will be your receipt.
MEDALS
Medals are awarded at the conclusion of all events.
REFUND POLICY / CHANGES
Refunds issued only if an event is cancelled. No refunds will
be issued after the final registration deadline of February 18.
A processing fee of $10 will be charged for cancellations prior
to the registration deadline. The Green Valley Senior Games
reserves the right to cancel any event due to insufficient
registration, weather or events beyond our control. In the
event of venue change or event cancellation, the information
will be posted on the website, www.gvrec.org and announced
on KGVY. Every effort will be made to contact entrants
prior to the start of the games. Bocce, billiards, racquetball,
shuffleboard and tennis participants must be able to play the
days and dates listed.
Kick Off Event
Get Ready! Get Set! Get T-Shirt and...GO!
T-shirts
All registered participants will receive an official 2015 Green
Valley Senior Games T-shirt. Participants are asked to wear
their official T-shirts at all events.
If you are unable to pick up your T-shirt at the Kick Off,
T-shirts will be available at West Social Center, 1111 Via Arco
Iris. (Monday-Friday 8:00am-11:00am) through March 20,
2015. You need to pick up your shirt prior to your event.
Recognition event
TUESDAY, MARCH 31, 1:00PM
DESERT HILLS SOCIAL CENTER
Join us as we recognize our participants and all the athletes,
volunteers and sponsors. We will be serving Ice Cream
Sundaes to celebrate the end of another great year! If you
wish to attend please complete a registration form or stop by
any GVR office. The event is FREE and we will be showing
photos taken by the volunteers from the Green Valley
Camera Club.
VOLUNTEERS
Over two hundred volunteers are needed to run successful
and safe events. From handing out refreshments to
awarding medals, there is something for everyone. If you
are interested in a specific event, complete a volunteer
registration form and the coordinator for that event will
contact you.

BASKETBALL SHOOT
Friday, March 6

• 10 long shots, foul line distance, starting at the
front of the basket and rotate to each side of the

B. There are two routes to choose from: 4 mile or

D. Participants must wear a bike helmet.
E. No aero bars will be permitted.

C. Time limit: 40 moves in 90 minutes, then game in
30 minutes with a 5 second delay preferred.
D. You must belong to the USCF to play. You may
join prior to March 1 by calling coordinator.
E. Awards: 1st, 2nd, 3rd place for players rated 1500
and above; and for players rated below 1500.

• Contestants hit 3 shots at flag 100 yards away.
• The closest ball will be measured and recorded.
C. Putting Contest:
• 9 holes laid out on practice putting green.
• Lowest score for 9 holes wins.
D. Chip Shots to a Target: each contestant hits 3 shots:
• 10 pts. for putting shot into hole.
• 7 pts. for inside the inner circle.
• 4 pts. for inside outer circle.

Each doubles partner must register, sign the waiver
and pay their fees individually. Start time is 9:00am
and 8:30am warm up on all courts.
• Men’s Doubles on Monday March 2
• Women’s Doubles on Tuesday March 3
• Mixed Doubles on Wednesday March 4
A. All competition will be by skill level within age
group (50+ and 70+)
B. Skill Levels will be 2.5, 3.0, 3.5, 4.0, 4.5+.
C. Teams must play in the skill level of the highest
rated partner.
D. Participants may compete in only one skill
bracket and one age group (50+ or 70+) per event.
E. Double-elimination tournament format.
F. Winners bracket is 2 of 3 games to 11 win by 2.
G. Loser bracket matches are a single game to 15
win by 2.
H. Tournament director reserves the right to combine
events and change format based on enrollment and
playing conditions. If events are combined all medals
will still be awarded.
I. Tournament director reserves the right to limit the
number teams per event if necessary.
J. International Federation of Pickleball (IFP)

K. This is a USAPA sanctioned tournament but not
a qualifying event for the National Senior Games.
70+ skill level events are not USAPA sanctioned
events, so USAPA tournament points will not be
awarded for these events.

RACQUETBALL
PINOCHLE

A. Men and women compete separately if possible.
B. Age groups are: (50-59, 60-69, etc.) Age
brackets are subject to change based on the number
of participants. There must be a minimum of two
teams in a bracket to compete. If there is only one
individual or team they will be moved to the next
lower bracket. No age limits for mixed doubles.
C. U.S. Racquetball Assoc. (USRA) rules apply.
D. Competition involves singles and doubles flights.
In doubles the lowest age bracket individual will
dictate the age bracket of the team.
E. Tournament format, time and schedule depend
upon number of participants.
F. Double elimination or round robin format.
G. Protective eye gear must be worn.
POWERLIFTING

E. The Wilkes Formula, a formula based upon
body weight, and lift poundage, is used to calculate
scores for each event.
F. Winners determined by total accumulated score
for all three events.
G. Coordinators will use the above rules as
a guideline and reserve the right to adjust as
necessary.

D. Breaststroke kick may be used in the butterfly.
E. Start from deck or water, except backstroke.
F. Rules meeting at 8:00am warm-up to follow.
G. A maximum of four (4) events may be entered.
H. Entering back-to-back events risks having little
time between events.
I. Participants in the 500 yard event have the option
of swimming at 7:00am or 12:30pm. We encourage
you to bring your own timer and lane counter.
TABLE TENNIS

A. Men’s Doubles, Women’s Doubles, and Mixed
Doubles.
B. Two (2) events maximum per individual. Limit
of one age bracket per event.
C. Age bracket for each doubles team is determined
by the combined ages of the two players as of
March 1, 2015.
D. Doubles teams may elect to play in a younger
bracket instead of the bracket of their combined
ages, but younger teams may not play in an older
age bracket.
E. Age brackets are as follows:
• combined age of 100 to 129
• combined age of 130 to 139
• combined age of 140 to 149
• combined age of 150 to 159
• combined age of 160 and higher.
F. The tournament is double elimination.
Tournament directors reserve the right to combine
events and change format based on enrollment and
playing conditions.
G. 2 out of 3 sets with regular scoring and a 10
point tie-breaker in lieu of a 3rd set.
H. U.S. Tennis Association (USTA) rules apply (10
minute default time). 10 minute warm up and play
must begin.
I. Each participant needs to bring one can of balls
per event entered. Winner moves up with the
unopened can.
J. The schedule for the first round of play will be
posted by March 10 at the West Center and on the
website (www.GVTennis.com). Participants with
email addresses will also be emailed, but no phone
calls will be made.

A. Participants will be placed on teams by a
Coordinating Committee and notified of team(s)
prior to the games.
B. Teams will consist of A, B, & C players. Call
a coordinator to inquire on ranking if you have not
been rated.
C. Tournament format will be determined by
number of participants and teams. Medals will be
awarded in each division.
D. USWBA rules apply with the following
exceptions: Ball must be passed at least once before
crossing the net. Overhand serves are not allowed.
T-SHIRT DESIGN CONTEST
Congratulations to Jim Fitzgerald for designing our
2015 T-shirt! Submit your logo design now for the
2016 Green Valley Senior Games. The contest is open
to all artists and interested parties. The logo will be
used on the T-shirts worn by the participants in 2016.
All design entries must be original, no more than four
colors, and an 8x8 inch square. The logo content is left
to the originality of the designer and may be submitted
in any form including computer art. Entries must be
submitted by March 20, 2015 by 3:00pm. Judging
will take place at the Recognition Event to give
participants the opportunity to vote for their favorite
design. The winning design will be announced at the
end of the event.
