Lawn Co-ed Unified Basketball Team
We are looking for boys & girls for student Athletes and Partners to join our
Unified Basketball Team.
Games will be held between March and May 2015
The Lawn Team will play against other Middle Schools in East Greenwich,
North Kingstown, Newport and South Kingstown.
Special Olympics Unified Sports® combines people with intellectual disabilities (traditional Special
Olympics athletes) and without intellectual disabilities (called partners) on sports teams for training
and competition. In Rhode Island, Unified Sports® programs are offered in soccer, basketball,
volleyball, softball, golf, sailing, bowling, flag football, tennis, cross-country running, cycling, senior
sports and ballroom dancing.
Unified Sports® is particularly successful in school settings, creating an inclusive environment where
everyone benefits. Special education students experience new social opportunities and make new
friends they may not have otherwise. Their non-disabled peers learn valuable lessons of character
development and may serve as mentors. Many parents and siblings also find that Unified Sports®
offers a new way to spend time together and meet other families.

A Message from Student Assistance:
Did you know Rhode Island has the highest rate of marijuana use in the United States?
Ever wonder how to handle those tricky kid questions about marijuana? The issues
continue to get more complicated and confusing as some states move to legalize or
decriminalize marijuana use.
It's important to remind young people that despite marijuana politics, it's never a good idea
for THEM. To help with some of the tricky questions, you can download a free pamphlet
that has some great suggestions.
As always, you're welcome to call me or set up a visit, I'm your Student Assistance
Counselor at Lawn. I'm available Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays. All services are
confidential.
