Submission of Abstract
The seminar features include plenary/overview lectures,
lead lectures and oral presentations of invited papers beside
poster presentations. Participants are requested to send soft
copy of the abstract indicating theme, title, author(s) name
followed by their address and email. The abstracts should be in
MS Word (single space, Times New Roman Font, size 12) not
exceeding 500 words. The presenting author's name needs to be

underlined. It should be submitted via e-mail upto 31 January,
2015.
Poster Presentation
Accepted papers are to be presented in a poster session
(size of 0.75 m width and 1.0 m height) stating title, name and
address of author (s), abstract, introduction, objective, materials
and methods, results, and conclusion in a font size of more than 16.
Accommodation
Accommodation will be arranged at local Hotels and
University Guest Houses. Limited accommodations are available
in the University Guest Houses, which may be given on first come
first served basis. The accommodation charges will be paid by
the participants. The Hotel tariffs in Jabalpur are in a range of
Rs. 1000-1500/- for non-AC rooms and Rs. 3000-4000/- for
AC rooms. Request for Hotel accommodation should be
mentioned in the registration form. Local transport arrangement
will be made during the workshop. Registration fee does not
include accommodation charges.
About Jabalpur
Jabalpur is located on the banks of river
Narmada and a major educational hub of Central India. It is well
connected by road, rail and air routes. The tourist attractions near
to Jabalpur include Marble Rocks, Madan Mahal, Bargi Dam,
Rani Durgawati Museum, Kanha National Park (180 km) and
Maihar Devi Temple (160 km).
Travel to JNKVV Jawaharlal Nehru Krishi Vishwa Vidyalaya,
Adhartal, Jabalpur is located nearly 8 km from main railway
station and from main bus stand. Auto rickshaw, city metro bus
(No.101 & 102) and taxi are available to reach university campus.

Carbon Sequestration in Forest and Non Forest Ecosystem
February 16-17, 2015
Carbon sequestration describes long term storage of
carbon dioxide (CO2) or other forms of carbon to either mitigate
or defer global warming and avoid dangerous climatic change.
The amount of carbon dioxide (CO2) in the air had been
relatively constant for 10,000 years until the Industrial
Revolution in the 1800s. Average temperature throughout the
World's have raised up, indicating a connection between our
use of fossil fuels and climatic effects. The atmospheric
concentration of CO2 has been on the rise because it is a
primary product of combustion. To effectively reduce CO2
emissions we must find alternative clean sources of energy and
encourage the development of "carbon sink" where
atmospheric carbon will be removed from the air and stored
either into the ground, water or into vegetation.

In agriculture globally soils are estimated to contain
approximately 1,500 giga tones of organic carbon to 1 m depth,
more than the amount in vegetation and the atmosphere.
Agricultural sequestration practices may have positive effects
on soil, air and water quality, be beneficial to wildlife and
expand food production. During presentation, in addition to
carbon sequestration basic concepts of carbon accounting (i.e.
measuring, reporting and verifying process that can determine
the amount of CO2 sequestered from atmosphere) or the
amount of carbon released into the atmosphere, Carbon
credits or carbon storage (provide a new way of thinking about
how to earn income from the forest and non forest land) carbon
trading and carbon emission trading (a way system to mitigate
GHG emission) will be discussed (in the forest and agro
ecosystem). Beneficiaries will be the scientist, administrative,
policy makers of forest and agriculture Department,
Universities and students of forestry and agriculture
professions.
About 80% of the world's potential for increasing carbon
storage lies in the forest. The forests are a significant part of the
global carbon cycle. Trees of the forest and non forest areas
take in CO2 from the air during photosynthesis and break down
the CO2, store the carbon in all its parts and release the oxygen
back to the atmosphere. Trees are approximately 50% carbon,
based on dry weight one ton of carbon equals 3.67 tons of
carbon dioxide equivalent. The amount of carbon stored,
however changes over time as forest and non forest tress grow
and mature. The management of trees in agro ecosystem such
as Agroforestry, ethno forest, trees outside forests and other
anthropogenically managed forest need to be immediately
implemented for mitigating Green Houses Gases (GHG)
emission. Agroforestry systems are a better option for reducing
global warming than oceanic, and other terrestrial options
because of the secondary environmental benefits such as
helping to attain food security and secure land tenure in
developing countries, increasing farm income, restoring and
maintaining above ground and below ground biodiversity
corridors between protected forests as CH4 sinks, maintaining
watershed hydrology and soil conservation.
About the Department The Department of Forestry was
established at JNKVV, Jabalpur under the Faculty of
Agriculture on 4th November, 1981 which has currently been
imparting B.Sc. (Forestry) degree, M.Sc. (Forestry) in
Agroforestry and Plantation Technology and Ph.D. (Forestry) in
Agroforestry. Thus, Forestry department is basically having
status of college, although it is still functioning as a department
under the Faculty of Agriculture. Organization of forestry
research through State Plan, Bio Drainage Project, TSP and All
India Coordinated Research Project on Agroforestry/Forestry
enabled the department to develop infrastructure and
strengthen capabilities. Multi-disciplinary research of applied
nature is conducted in the field of Silviculture, Agroforestry,
Forest Entomology, Forest Hydrology, Tree Improvement etc.
Agroforestry systems include trees in farms, community
forestry and a variety of local forest management and ethno
forestry practices where sometimes trees may be retained for
up to 300 years. Agroforestry encompasses a wide variety
of systems (viz. agrisilviculture, silvopastoral and agrosilvopastoral system) and practices (viz., trees on farms
boundaries, trees grown in close association with village
rainwater collection, ponds, and crop fallow rotations pasture
