MAIN PURPOSE OF JOB
The British Embassy Visa Section in Beijing is looking for native Chinese speakers to fill temporary positions in the
visa section as Entry Clearance Assistants (ECA). The jobholders will undertake a range of tasks, as detailed below,
relating with the processing of visa applications, primarily focusing on document verification and/or
communications support.
We are looking for flexible people, who work well in a busy environment. It is extremely important that jobholders
are adaptable and show a willingness to undertake a variety of tasks.
Fluency in written and spoken Putonghua and English is essential, as are an understanding of Chinese society, a
positive attitude and the ability to work as part of a team. Native-speaker fluency in oral Cantonese and other
Chinese dialects may also be an advantage.
ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (What will the jobholder be expected to achieve?)

To perform accurate checks on documents in line with immigration policy, and to provide Entry
Clearance Officers assistance in assessing applications.

To co-ordinate work on applications requiring supplementary evidence, and to manage referrals
to British Commonwealth countries and the British Home Office, extension requests and enquiries
from other British Embassy offices.

To assist with co-ordination of work following application decision, including return of
documents, and reviews and appeals against decision.

We offer a competitive package, which includes basic salary, good leave entitlement, and insurance plan etc. The
gross starting salary for this position before all deductions is RMB 7,675/ month for Chinese. A 5% bonus will be
paid on completion of the full contract period.
The annual leave entitlement is 1 day per month. Conditioned working hours is 35 hours/ week from Monday to
Friday, but there may be a requirement for flexible shift working between 7AM and 7PM.
Staff recruited locally by the British Embassy Beijing are subject to Terms and Conditions of Service according to
local Chinese employment law.
