Putting things off to last minute adds to our stress and this is no exception for me. If you made resolutions this year I hope that you are having success. Part of the process of setting new goals for the year is to review the past year. RNS made a lot of changes last year under the leadership of President Barbara Greenfield. The board recommended changes in the by-laws that were accepted by the membership. These changes included adding a tagline to the title of RNS: RNS Advocates for Quality Healthcare. This supports our vision to include giving a voice to all the members allowing everyone voting rights and contributing to the functions of RNS. It is our goal that this change will strengthen our group and bring about changes that give everyone a place to learn, grow, and serve. I read a quote from Clinton Kelly in the January Women’s Day magazine in which he says that he “scrapped resolutions and instead adopted “evolutions”. He” thinks of evolutions as barely noticeable changes to your daily routine that nonetheless add up to big differences over time – and transform your life for the better. “To really appreciate the beauty of an evolution, you need to lose your quick-fix mentality, Of course you know that quick fixes don’t work, but there’s a teeny-tiny section of the human brain that’s hopelessly, stupidly optimistic. That’s why we still click on those online as that promise Lose 30 pounds in 30 days with this 2-second secret!!!” This sentiment resonates with me because it feels much less intimating and doable. We all wear multiple hats, most of you are employed full-time, have family commitments, belong to organizations that do good and that you enjoy. We need to be realistic and set reasonable goals and expectations for our time. I hope the RNS meetings will continue to have a place on your calendar for 2015. We meet the 4th Thursday of the month, 10 times a year. This year, my evolution will be to get my letter out on time and that I will seek new ideas and programs for RNS that will both interest you and help you in your work within the medical community and your patients. I will be open to any and all input from you. Check to see if you have any opportunities to assist the RNS organization in the new year. I am looking forward to seeing you this month at Northridge Medical Center where Dr. Hedge will be speaking on Robotics. Please keep the date open. It is sad and sweet that this is my last message as President. It has been an immense pleasure and joy to serve this organization with the other woman and men on the board.
