We will have students from both the University of Alabama (UA) and the University of Tennessee (UT). Water Resources and Climate: European Alps (4 hours – 3 hours lecture and 1 hour lab): This course is taught during the UA Summer Interim and the UT Summer Mini. Non‐engineering students will receive four hours of Natural Science (N) credit while engineering students may receive four hours of technical general elective credit or professional elective credit. Please note, for engineering students to receive elective credit you must be a junior or senior, otherwise, you can receive natural sciences credit. See Glenn for more details. The course is based in Innsbruck, Austria and partners with faculty from the University of Innsbruck which has approximately 25K students. We stay at the Hotel Weisses Kreuz located in the historic city center. Students are placed in double rooms with a private bathroom, TV and wireless internet. Breakfast (free) is provided daily from 0700‐1000 and the hotel provides a room for lectures which begin at around 1015. This hotel is fabulous! Mozart stayed there! Right in the middle of the historic district….a short walk to everything…on a cobblestone pedestrian only road. Now…..these courses are not about sitting inside a room as we spend about as much time seeing the Alps as we do lectures. This course will include field trips to Neuschwanstein Castle (southern Germany), Tirol Castle (Meran, Italy), Eisrieswelt Werfen Austria (World's Largest Ice Caves), Salzburg Austria (Hellbrunn Water Works), University of Innsbruck Alpine Research Center in Obergurgl Austria (Tree Coring), Zugspitze (Highest Mountain in Germany, 2962 meters) and Stubaier Glacier (Austria). Glaciology (4 hours – 3 hours lecture and 1 hour lab): You may extend your stay and obtain an additional (4) hours by taking Glaciology. Students will receive four hours of Natural Science (N) credit. Tuition IS INCLUDED in the course fee!!! Again, you get your room, free breakfast daily, local cell phone, mixers and some fantastic field trips. The only additional costs are your flight and lunch/dinner/fun money!
