Hufford Junior High School Newsletter Home of the Mighty Trojans Hoops for Heart Volume 1, Issue 5 On December 19, Hufford staff and students participated in the 5th annual Hoops for Heart basketball game. The teachers’ team defended their undefeated title with a score of 37 to 30. Congratulations to the students that played on the students’ team: Tyree S, Josh M, Jamere H, Marquise B, Jaylen M, Kendrick W, AJ W, Josiah P, Beyonce W, DiJohne M, Molli M, Kaeli F, Symone R, Morgan C, Ashlee J, Montiana B, Davon G, Jayvion G, Melanie P and Riley C. Duck Race Throughout the month of December, Hufford students were encouraged to buy ducks in order to raise money to the American Heart Association during their lunch periods. Grade levels competed against one another in the Duck Race to see who could collect the most ducks. The 7th grade won the Duck Race with a donation of $312 (624 ducks). KINDERGARTEN ROUND-UP Basketball Fundraiser The Joliet Grade Schools Foundation is hosting a “Hoops for D86” Employee Basketball Fundraiser on Saturday, February 7th at Joliet Central High School from 1:00-4:30 p.m. Come cheer on our staff members that will be playing. Admission is $2.00 for adults and $1.00 for students. More information will be sent home prior to the event. Kindergarten registration for the upcoming 2015-2016 school year will take place on Thursday, March 5th from 5:00-7:00 p.m. and Friday, March 6th from 9:30 a.m.-1:00 p.m. at District 86 elementary schools. Any child who will be five on or before September 1, 2015 must be registered. For more information, call (815) 740-3196. Veteran staff and students alike are thrilled to see our Trojan Family expanding! Throughout the year, the newsletter staff will be profiling new teachers. We know you’ll love them just as much as we do! Kristen Brandenburg- Physical Education Interviewed by Ashlyn F, Lilia H and Everett G Q: Why did you choose to teach P.E.? A: A former coach inspired me to teach. I think staying active is important. Q: How long have you been a P.E. teacher? A: One year. Q:Were you athletic as a child? A: Yes. I played volleyball, basketball, and softball. I love golf. Interviewed by Diana M & Mindy G Q: Where did you go to college? A: I went to North Central College in Naperville. Q: What do you like about technology? A: Everyday it changes. It all evolves. Everything around us has to do with technology. Q: Was Hufford your first choice? A: I worked in Minooka first as a substitute, but I love Hufford. Q: What made you want to do your job? A: I originally wanted to teach in elementary, but I was happy to take whichever job I was offered first. Q: Why did you choose to teach at Hufford? A: Principal Surprenant was the principal in the same junior high where I went. It was fun to know my principal was going to be the principal in the school where I teach. Q: How old where you when you started to teach here? A: I was 25 and I still am. It’s actually my first year. Q: Why does technology inspire you? A: My students inspire me. Students will be having careers that haven’t even been invented yet and those jobs will have to do with technology. Q: Was P.E. your first choice or was something else? A: P.E. was my first choice, but I wanted to teach elementary. I changed my mind while I was substituting. Nicole Mata- ALC (IE) Interviewed by Amber W & Emelia G Q: Why did you decide to come to I.E.? A: It was decided for me. I applied to teach technology, but I did have the qualifications. Q: Would you rather be teaching in I.E. or in Gen Ed? A: As long as I’m teaching I’m happy, but I do love the friendly I.E. atmosphere. Q: Where did you go to college? A: I went to Lewis University. Q: Why did you want to be a teacher? A: I want to help kids succeed. Q: What are your hobbies? A: I like to exercise, read, hang out with friends, and I love fashion. Q: Which subject would you like to teach? A: I would like to teach history. Q: Did you ever want to do anything else besides teach? A: I started my college career wanting to be a nurse. Q: What were your favorite books in high school? A: I liked the Kite Runner and the Giver.
