XXIX GUJARAT SCIENCE CONGRESS-2015
Scoping future Challenges for Research and
Education in Science and Technology
Theme
Recent unprecedented technological advances necessitate
changes in the way we conduct our teaching and research. The
broad band revolution has fundamentally altered the way we
work and teach. Old classrooms are being replaced by content
rich distant learning; desktops are being replaced by laptops,
palmtops and cell-phones; telemedicine and distant diagnosis
is replacing conventional visits to doctors, navigation is via
GPS aided google maps and direction finders and the postal
services is replaced by e-mails and the Facebook with
instantaneous communication. The list is endless and the
intellectual space is now replete with novel ideas and
technology with seeds for both normal and disruptive
innovations. To survive in a competitive Global Village with
increasing resource crunch, societies will need to develop
resilience and delivery systems that will prepare and provide
for material wealth, human capabilities, and suitable ecosystems to sustain knowledge creation and develop
mechanisms that anticipate changes and develops futuristic
strategies.
In India, large economic diversity, lower connectivity,
heterogeneous education levels and substantive backdrop of
traditional faith and knowledge systems imply that the
challenges are even larger. The key concerns are, how do we
position ourselves for the future, what should be the role of
State in education, what should be its policies that facilitate
innovation, how do we remain relevant and survive in a Global
Village? The XXIX Science Congress-2015 will discuss these
issues, critical to our survival as a society. A symposium on
Future Trends in Sciences is planned.
Organizers
