American Red Cross to Provide Emergency Preparedness Training We are thrilled that in December 2014, our management company, The Goodman Group, signed an agreement with the American National Red Cross to provide emergency training courses for employees at corporate and in its senior living and health care communities. Our community will receive training courses including Adult and Pediatric First Aid with CPR and AED, CPR/ Professional Rescuer, and Team First Aid Exercises. The agreement will allow all managed communities to benefit from the American Red Cross’ knowledge, expertise and consistently high quality training. Constance Schein, national director of Health Services for The Goodman Group, said, “This training is vital for our staff at our senior living and health care communities where our residents are typically in their 80s to 90s, with some even 100 years old or more.” Faraway Places: Written by Richard Cutler, Resident Sometimes, if you are that lucky in this life, you may meet a person who is able to give you a glimpse into a whole new way of thinking of being a new universe of the mind and of the heart and of the soul. And so it seemed to be between my bride from another culture and me. We learned that the lust for travel is not confined to the world around us. It can also be to the world within us... So we take the Yellow Brick Road to Faraway Places with strange sounding names, to a desert oasis: Timbuktu, maybe Samarkand or fabled Cathay, or even, for those who dare, to where the Angels fear to tread. This no longer is a Faraway Land for you took me by the hand and showed me the stranger’s ways and, together, we have made this our own home for you and me, no longer a far away place. Andy’s Nature Corner: An Alligator Story One day, Laverne and I were visiting the Goodman Pond when we saw an alligator that followed us along the bank. We got out of there very fast because they cannot be trusted. I checked the computer and found some interesting facts about alligators: The females are roughly 10 ft. long, while males will grow up to 14 ft. and may weigh up to 1,000 pounds. Young alligators will eat insects, amphibians and small fish. Adult alligators will eat fish, snakes, turtles, small mammals, birds, other alligators and people, if they are careless. Two alligators were captured by trappers, who removed them from the pond. We noticed birds and turtles were missing for many weeks and assumed they became alligator food. So, be advised that they travel from pond to pond through drainage pipes and may show up anytime either here at the Goodman Pond or elsewhere.
