COMMANDERS REPORT:
Greetings,
During our Jan 19, 2015, Legion General Membership Meeting, one of our members
stated that another member communicated to them that we were spending too much
money and the Post was going bankrupt. I addressed it at the meeting and agreed to also
address it here for all of our member ship.
-Concerning the bankruptcy and having money for the post:
• Post operating expenses are paid by the revenue generated in our social quarter.
When members use our facilities, it pays the bills. Thanks to all members for
your increased patronage over the last six months!
• When we compare July-December 2013 social quarter revenue to July-December
2014 there was an 18.5% increase in 2014 during the measured 6 months. The
2014 revenue increases by month ranged from 3.3% (July) to almost 39%
(October). We are on track for a 10% revenue increase in January
-Concerning the spending of money:
• Post facility maintenance projects have included: Repair of broken security
system cameras; replace unsafe bar floor mats—the cabinets fell apart while
moving and were also replaced; cleaning of the hall floor and chairs; and painting
of our parking lot lines.
• All other money expenditures have been normal expenses, such as monthly bills
and annual charity contributions to the organizations we support, or new
contributions like the Veterans Day Parade
-Conclusion: Due to the increased patronage and support we have received from
members of all entities, Legion, S.A.L, A.L.R, and Auxiliary, our post has been able to
contribute more to our programs and charities. We have also been able to accomplish
needed facility maintenance. We are not going bankrupt or spending excessively.
-In the Future: I will report monthly and total revenue increases or decreases in this
bulletin, and the Finance Officer or I can meet with you to answer any concerns (Richard
has always offered this-THANKS!). Additionally, I would ask all that you talk to Richard
or me before making unsubstantiated statements among the membership concerning
finances—it is detrimental to our Post in many ways. Also, the correct way to address
this is to show up at the meeting in person to voice your concerns or file an incident
report at the Post.
See you at the Super Bowl Party on Sunday--LET’S HAVE ANOTHER FUN MONTH!
For God and Country,
Bill Moore
Commander
NEWS FROM THE SONS OF THE AMERICAN LEGION
Hello fellow S.A.L. members,
The 2015 S.A.L.4th Annual Golf Tournament is February 15th. The sign-up sheets are
at the bar. Please sign up with a Foursome or as a Single golfer ASAP--the 10 am Tee
Time is already full but we still have slots open for 8 and 12. This event helps our S.A.L.
do a lot of good for our Charities and we need you to support it. Lou Napolitano has
been doing a fantastic job picking up new sponsors and doing whatever it takes to ensure
this will be another great event. We still will need members to help with the food serving
as well as activities run back at the pavilion when the golfers return for lunch. I hope to
see you there!
I would like to thank those that came out to the S.A.L. Camp Fire Jam Saturday night.
The wind was not very cooperative and we had to hold the event inside the pavilion. We
were able to raise some good money selling Food and Jello Shots and made a
contribution to the Auxilary Service Dog Project. Congratulations to Brian Davis, he
won the S.A.L. Propane Fire Pit Raffle. I am sure it will get some good use on these cold
evenings.
Your S.A.L. needs your help! We need help staffing our kitchen. Currently we are down
to 2 cooks. Dolly has been kind enough to volunteer to help us out and fill in once a
month and that has been a great help. (THANK YOU DOLLY & GIL). This is our main
means of cash flow for the S.A.L. The kitchen is how we are able to do so much for our
Charities and help with things around the Post. I need 2 more Cooks and possibly a
Dishwasher. This way our volunteers will only have to work once a month on a Sunday.
We need your help.
We still have several outstanding Membership dues. Please try to take care of that
ASAP. The Monthly S.A.L. Meeting is the 1st Monday of every Month at 7pm at Post 1.
We would really like to see you there.
For God and Country,
Brad Parsons

FROM BEHIND THE BAR:
Can you believe that January is already gone?? It really is true, time flies when you're
having fun, and we are definitely having fun at Post 1! Thank you to all of our members
that are making this happen. The bartender appreciation night was great and our
"bartenders" …did a great job. The SAL jam in the pavilion showcased the talents of
some of our members and a good time was had by all!
Friday night dinner and music is a wonderful way to start your weekend. We are
bringing in some different music and returning some favorites. Wednesday and Saturday
karaoke is a lot of fun. Come on in and give it a try.
February is bringing more events! The Auxiliary is hosting a Valentine's Dinner on the
14th and a Family Day on the 28th, raising funds for a support dog, with a little bit of
something for everyone. The SAL has a golf tournament on the 15th, and there are still
slots available. The Riders have their bike day on the 14th and rib night on the 21st.
Wow, can we have a little more fun?
We are still having drink specials and on Mondays if you come in for lunch, your first
draft beer is FREE!! Wells and domestics are $1.50 on Mondays and Thursdays, buckets
are 6 for $10.00 Saturday, Sunday and Monday.
Thanks to everyone for their continued support!!
Your bartenders,
Crystal, Donna, Hazel, Marion, Michelle and Shari

will be only pizza on Feb 19—no stromboli or calzones.
Starting March 5th, we will be serving one topping mini-pizzas for
$5 and Rudy’s Special mini-stromboli for $6 as Thursday Lunch
Specials only.
Remember that all of our Dining Staff are volunteers and work for

AMERICAN LEGION RIDERS NEWS
Greetings Riders,
Looks like winter is upon us, but that does not stop the Riders from riding! Great turn out
for our Ride to Black Hammock Fish Camp.
Here are a few events we have coming up this month:
• Rider meeting will be Feb. 7th at 10:00 am in the Legion Hall, bring your ideas
and suggestions. March is Daytona Bike Week and coming fast. We have a lot of
good times planned
• February 14th is our “Bike Day” from 1-6 pm. This month we will have the band
“Studebaker Hawk” playing Classic Rock Jams
• Riders Meat Shoot Bingo, Feb. 21st. Starting at 1:00 pm. We have really been
having a good showing on this event.
Here we go--going to bring an old favorite back-- ALR RIB NIGHT on Sat. Feb. 21st,
from 5:00-8:00 pm. Then after dinner stick around and listen to some of our Riders sing
Karaoke with Wayne Fowler. Watch for the flyers, facebook, and emails going out about
this good time.
Ride Safe, Ride Smart, Ride On.

When thanking all of those who helped with the Children’s Christmas Party, I forgot to
express our gratitude to Marie Martinico and Carol Martinico for their generous
donations of gifts for the children and tree decorating. My apologies to both and to all I
forgot to mention.

Auxilary Membership
To anyone who missed the Auxiliary Christmas party, we missed you! A good time was
had by all and we had lots of good food and fellowship.
Renewals for 2015 are at 75% so we still have many members who have not renewed.
After January 1, the Daily and Weekly Drawing list will be updated to remove all unpaid
members until dues are up to date. I congratulate all the members who got their renewals
in promptly and encourage the rest to submit $30 for senior and $6 for junior members
ASAP.
As we start the New Year, please come out and attend Unit Meetings on the second
Wednesday each month at 7 PM. We are accomplishing so much for our veterans and our
communities. It is exciting to be a part of that.
Donna Shearer, Unit 1 Membership Chairman
