Volume 58 • Number 5 February 2, 2015 Announcing the Mission and Ministries of Ardmore Baptist Church, Inc., Winston-Salem, NC Ministry Area Emphasis Of The Month Congregational Care: Continuing the Incarnation “And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, full of grace and truth.” John 1:14 Providing a Meal in the Name of Jesus everal years ago when my mother-in-law died, her church, Spray Baptist in Eden, NC, provided a meal for Bonnie and our family. I don’t remember what was served, but I’ve never forgotten the act of kindness. In the stark coldness of grief, caring Christians reflected the warmth of God’s compassion. Simple, beautiful, powerful grace. Our Bereavement Committee provides a meal to families of church members who have died. In the midst of their grief, these families are touched by such compassion and gracious hospitality. Several members gladly prepare a favorite dish when called upon. More people are needed. Can we add you to the list? For more information about how you can serve, please contact Shearra Jackson (765-5620). - Paul Mullen S Worship Connection February 8 Morning: “The Cost of Following Jesus” Mark 8:31-38 Dr. Don Gordon KidNection (10:45) Families: “Ruth Listens to Naomi” The Book of Ruth Bring a Friend! The Lord continues to work through our leaders in an amazing way to call believers to an “All For You” commitment to Christ. Join us on February 8 as we celebrate the faithful work of our WMU. Dr. Gordon will challenge us to renew and expand our commitment to “Follow” wherever God leads. I Discover Ardmore f you are new to Ardmore and would like to learn more about our family of faith, please join us for the Discover Ardmore luncheon this Sunday following the 10:45 a.m. service. Y Rob Lemons Moves On and Stays With Us ou have received a letter of resignation this week from Rob Lemons, our Minister of Community Impact and Global Connections for the past nine years. We have mixed feelings about this letter. First and foremost, we are happy for Rob as he moves into this new phase of ministry as the Family Room Manager for the Ronald McDonald House here in Winston-Salem. He will be overseeing the use of a “room” at Baptist Hospital and another at Forsyth Hospital, recruiting volunteers, and creating a network of support for their work. We are proud of Rob for his spiritual and vocational growth over the years. Rob grew up in this church. Ty Talton was his youth minister. As an adult, Rob felt a call into ministry and entered nearby Wake Forest Divinity School to prepare for this new journey. Our church had the privilege of ordaining Rob upon his completion of studies at Wake Forest and have benefitted from his continued leadership in our missions area. He is “our son” and we are confident he will excel in this new role and be a stalwart servant for the Ronald McDonald House. At the same time we are saddened to see him leave his post at Ardmore. Rob has been the consummate team player, putting the good of the team above his own need for recognition for glory and credit. He has been a steady leader in the Community Impact and Global Connections ministry area, remaining unfazed in the face of crisis, and showing a non-anxious presence in times of difficulty. I am going to miss Rob in our staff meetings and the common sense he offered to the group. We do find solace in the fact that Rob, Emily, Bobby, and Wesley are going to remain in Winston-Salem and members of Ardmore Baptist Church. Emily has been a great asset for Rob and the church, serving alongside, and offering her own skills of leadership in our midst. Bobby and Wesley will continue to be active in our youth group and players on our basketball team. Please find an opportunity in the days and weeks to come to offer Rob a word of appreciation for all that he has done for our church. We will let you know what corporate efforts we are making to say thanks as they come to fruition. Pray for Rob as he begins his new work and carries all that we’ve shared with him into a new place of service. - Don Gordon Calling Prayer Warriors A s we prepare for our next capital campaign effort coming up in April, we are seeking pray-ers who will commit to regular daily prayer for the campaign, our vision, and our future. Contact the church office to sign up for this important team that will undergird this significant challenge. A FaithHealthNC nyone interested in learning more about FaithHealthNC is invited to attend one of two sessions being offered here at the church on February 12. Each session lasts one hour. You may choose to attend at 10:30 a.m. or 5:30 p.m. Registration is preferred, in order for them to know how many to expect, but is not required. Please call Dawn Hall (716-0459) to register. These are information, not training, sessions. W e will begin the season of Lent on Ash Wednesday, February 18, at 6:00 p.m. Lent is a season of penitence and prayer, personal reflection, and corporate spiritual renewal designed to prepare the worshipping community for the remembrance of Christ. The imposition of ashes is a vivid reminder of our personal and corporate need for God. This service of self-examination invites us to begin our journey toward Easter.
