Morning Announcements Friday, February 13, 2015 Dear Parents, Due to concerns over privacy issues and viruses potentially spread by our Morning Announcements email, we will discontinue daily email distribution on February 27, 2015. As in the past you will be able to access the Morning Announcements on the JFHS website at http://bedfordjfhs.sharpschool.net/. We have been posting them on our site for several years allowing parents and students quick 24/7 access to what’s going on at JF! Thank you for your support! Mollye Hays, Head Library Media Specialist and JFHS Administration Becca’s Closet has free prom dresses because no one should miss the prom. (www.beccascloset.org) School Wide Video: Seniors: Seniors-if you have not submitted a casual photo to the yearbook, please submit one by February 20. Casual pictures will not be accepted for the yearbook after that date. Sports: A Softball Parent interest meeting will be held Tuesday, February 17th, at Forest Elementary School, starting at 6:30PM. The meeting will cover the tryouts schedule and how they will be conducted. Clubs & Activities: Attention JFHS...Key Club is still collecting your new and/or gently used shoes. We need LOTS of shoes. Please bring in your boots and shoes to help the needy. Thank you. Forensics conference leave time is now 7:30 in front of the school, Saturday 2/14. Guidance: Attention Juniors who are interested in applying to attend Boys State at Radford University or Girls State at Longwood University in June. Applications are available in the guidance office. Attention Seniors: CVCC will hold a FAFSA "Super Saturday" on Saturday, February 21st at CVCC's main campus from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. If you are a student seeking financial aid for a 2 year or 4 year college for the Fall 2015 or Spring 2015 you should plan on attending. The FAFSA is the form used by colleges, universities, and career-technical schools across the country to determine eligibility for federal and many state financial aid programs. You do not have to be attending CVCC in the Fall to go to this program. If you have any additional questions, please see Mrs. Hogg in the Guidance Office. 2/13/2015 Page Any rising Junior or Senior that might be interested in a Career Technical Education program at CVCC needs to come to an orientation session on Monday, February 16th at 6:30 p.m. in the multi-purpose room in Merritt 1 Attention Seniors: If you are interested in career in Engineering, Welding, Manufacturing and/or Machine Tool, the Bedford One Program will be sponsoring a field trip to Harris Corporation and Sentry Equipment on Wednesday February 18th from 9 a.m to 1:30 p.m. Please come by the guidance office to sign up and get a permission slip. Space is limited and will be on a first come, first served basis. Hall. If you would like more information on CVCC's CTE program, please see Mrs. Hogg in the Guidance Office. The Virginia Space Grant Consortium is offering a limited number of scholarships to students majoring in STEM at any campus in the Virginia Community College System. These $2,000 scholarships are competitive awards based on academic merit for students demonstrating an interest in NASA's missions and STEM related careers. If you would like more information regarding this scholarship opportunity, please see Mrs. Hogg in the Guidance Office. Miller-Motte Technical College will be having SHADOW DAY February 18, 2015 for all High School Seniors. Lunch will be provided. Please see Mrs. Jacobs in Guidance for Signing up. ATTENTION 10th graders: The Lynchburg Regional Governor's STEM Academy will hold an Open House on Thursday, February 12th, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., at CVCC's Main campus in Merritt Hall the Multi-purpose room. This is a great opportunity for you to see what the STEM Academy has to offer to students interested in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math career fields. If you have any questions, please see Mrs. Hogg in the Guidance Office. ATTENTION 10th graders: CVCC Early College Applications are available in the Guidance Office. Students that are interested in applying to the Early College program must take both the CVCC Math and English Placement tests before the application deadline of Friday, February 27th.
