The class will use the book mudhouse sabbath: An Invitation to a Life of Spiritual Discipline by Lauren F. Winner. Inspired by the Jewishness of Jesus, this study looks at seven ways of Christian formation. Each of the six weeks will focus on a different spiritual discipline: sabbath keeping, hospitality/eating food, prayer, fasting, grief/mourning well, and doorposts. We will meet in the sanctuary at 11:00. Grab a coffee and join us for one or all of the classes. If you have any questions or wish to purchase a book , please see teacher, Holly Kooistra. LEARN MORE ABOUT Gretna United Methodist Church? We will be hosting a series of Membership Discovery classes beginning on Sunday, March 8, 2015. These relaxed discussions will help you explore: United Methodist Church’s beliefs and practices; the mission and ministry of Gretna United Methodist Church; and the significance of church membership. We will meet after worship in the REACH Coordinator’s office for approximately one hour. Since each session covers different topics of interest, we encourage you to attend all sessions. Child care is available for younger children. We welcome everyone to the worship service -- whether you are here for the first time or a long time attender, we want you to experience God’s unconditional love through our family of faith. Our desire is to help you connect with God, and connect with people that can encourage you in your faith journey. If you are visiting, we thank you for being our guest! Please join us after the service in the fellowship hall for refreshments. Call to Worship (based on Exodus 24 and Psalm 99) Come! Says the Lord. Come up to the Holy Mountain! We hear you, Holy One, but we are afraid. What will we find there? We are assembled in this sanctuary, this holy place, away from the distractions of the world. Mighty One, we know you are a lover of justice. Our knees, yes even our souls, quake before you for we have not done what we ought to do. You have shown yourself to be a forgiving God, therefore we honor your name. Yes, O God, we will come with excitement, trembling with anticipation, to your holy mountain! We come to receive instruction in holiness, righteousness, compassion, and peace. We need to regain sight to see the least among you, to receive your wisdom and strength. Open our eyes and our ears and our hearts to receive your Word. Anoint us as your holy people to serve those who live on the margins – the outcasts, the lonely, the ignored. The Lord is the Sovereign and Holy One. The Lord says, “Do not be afraid.” Come! Let us worship God! Prayer for Transfiguration Holy God, upon the mountain you revealed our Messiah, who by his death and resurrection would fulfill both the law and the prophets. By his transfiguration enlighten our path that we may dare to suffer with him in the service of humanity and so share in the everlasting glory of him who lives and reigns with your and the Holy Spirit, One God, for ever. Amen. NOTES: NOTES: HOW would a RELATIONSHIP with Jesus change your life for the better? Here is how you can receive Christ: HOW would a RELATIONSHIP with Jesus change your life for the better?
