World Meeting of Families Patron Saints
Saint John Paul II and Saint Gianna have been
chosen as the two worthy Patron Saints to guide all in
preparation and participation of this
international event as they fully embody the
history, mission and theme of the
World Meeting of Families 2015.—
Archbishop Charles J. Chaput
Saint John Paul II—In 1979, Saint John Paul II was
the first pope to visit Philadelphia, where
he said Mass on Logan Circle for nearly
one million people filling the Benjamin
Franklin Parkway. In 1994, he celebrated
the first World Meeting of Families in
Rome, which aimed to strengthen the
sacred bonds of family across the globe. Upon his
canonization, he was declared “the pope of the family.”
Saint Gianna Beretta Molla—
A pediatrician and mother of four, Saint
Gianna is best known for her selfless love as
a mother, giving her life to bear her fourth
child in 1962. She was beatified by Saint
John Paul II in 1994 and canonized in
2004. Saint Gianna is the Patron Saint for
mothers, physicians and unborn children. Her life was a
testament to “the family fully alive,” the theme for the
World Meeting of Families—2015.

6th Sunday in Ordinary Time
Dear Sister and Brothers,
In our Second Reading this weekend, Saint Paul tells us to “do everything for the glory of
God.” What a valuable lesson for each of us, especially as we begin our Lenten journey this
Wednesday. Everything we do should be for the glory of God, everything! There is nothing
too small, if done with love, which does not bring glory to God. As you go through the routine
of your day, try to remember that God is right there with you and offer whatever it is you are
doing to Him. In this way everything we do becomes a pleasing offering to our loving Father.
Below is the Schedule for Ash Wednesday. Coming to Mass as a family on this day is the
perfect way to begin the Lenten journey and to bring glory to God!
God Bless,
Father Weber

Catholic Charities Appeal 2015—
GIVING HOPE
The Catholic Charities Appeal is the
Archdiocese of Philadelphia’s single most important fundraising initiative and
continues to build on last year’s success and reach out to the
entire Catholic community of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia.
In 2014, Catholic Charities Appeal was blessed to achieve 100%
of our $10 million goal. That means we were able to make substantial distributions to services and charitable entities that depend on us & on you! The following services and organizations
that benefitted are: Catholic Social Services; Catholic Special
Education; Skilled Care for Retired and Sick Priests; Mission
Parishes; Life, Family and Laity; Cultural Ministries and Foundation Activities. Your ongoing support in 2015 is essential to
the continued success of these vital missions. The Catholic Charities Appeal uses the direct mail approach. You should receive a
direct mail appeal. However, if you wish to make your annual
contribution through the parish, you can use the envelope in
your packet in this weekends second collection.
St. Vincent de Paul Clothing Donation Bins
The Society of St. Vincent de Paul is phasing out their
clothing bins around the archdiocese by Dec. 31,
including the one in the parish parking lot. We have
contracted with GreenDrop Charitable Donations to handle all of
our clothing donations through their staffed Donation Centers,
home pickup service, and clothing drives. Your closest
GreenDrop Donation Center is at Home Depot Parking Lot, 700
Reed Rd., Broomall. It is staffed 7 days a week for 12 hours
each day. You can hand your donation of usable clothing and
household goods to the attendant and specify that you want the
Society to be the beneficiary of your donation. The attendant will
provide you with a tax receipt if requested. You can also schedule a home pickup at anytime by calling 888-944-DROP (3767)
or online at www.SVdPpickup.org. The website also has a list of
their donations Centers. Be sure to specify the Society of St.
Vincent de Paul as the beneficiary when you make your
donation. Thank you for your continued support.

World Meeting of Families:
Chapter 4: Two Become One
Our first three chapters reviewed basic Christian
faith. We saw how confidence in Jesus opens the
door to faith, enabling us to know God and what God has done in
history. God creates male and female in his image, and makes a
covenant with Israel and the Church. God is faithful to his promises,
even when we sin. Because God loved us in this way, we spend our
lives trying to return our love to God and share it with our neighbor. In
this month’s chapter and in the chapters to come, we will study the
implications of these doctrines for marriage and the family. When
husband and wife promise to love each other as God loves us all, they
make a commitment to love not only romantically, but also with mercy
and forgiveness. Our culture sometimes teaches us to think of
marriage as a negotiable contract between two individuals who
happen to feel sexual chemistry. This view of love is a recipe for
instability, since it is still premised on individualism and the waxing and
waning of romantic feelings. The Church’s alternative account of love
enables us to transcend the culture of individualism and become who
we were created to be. Founded on Christ, sustained in the
sacraments, Catholic marriage builds humility and self-sacrifice into
the dynamic between male and female. As this month’s chapter
explains in more detail, sacramental marriage creates intimate
communion even in times of suffering and hardship. “Love is our
mission,” as our catechism’s title declares, because Christ’s love frees
us from false, shrunken accounts of love and makes us fully alive.—
