Sunday March 1: Communion Preparation
This program is designed for parents and children. Parents will meet with Kathy Schillreff 02/24
after church (10:45) for initial program instruction and to receive materials. Classes involving the children and parents are March 11 & 18 (6:30-7:30pm), and on March 22 at
the 9:30 service the children will be recognized and invited to stand at the altar during 02/25

the Great Thanksgiving.

Men’s Dinner, March 2, 6:00 p.m. All men of the church are invited for an evening of 02/29
food, fun and fellowship. Look for the sign-up sheet in the Activities Centers (parish hall
and back wall of church).
Lent Mini-Retreat—Revealed in Prayer: In keeping with our 2015 theme, we will
explore how to pray so that we can hear what God will reveal to us. Join us on Saturday,
March 7 from 1-4:30pm to experience several ways to pray that emphasize the
hearing part of prayer. Stay for the 5:00 worship service and “wine and cheese fellowship” at 6:00 to round out the day! Sign up sheets are posted.

Light a candle or do whatever puts you consciously in
the presence of God. Then pray this prayer (or another of your own choosing) written by Archbishop
Thomas Cranmer in 1549, The Book of Common
Prayer, as you begin your spiritual journey and The
Bible Challenge.
“Blessed Lord, who caused all holy Scriptures to
be written for our learning: Grant us so to hear
them, read, mark, learn, and inwardly digest
them, that we may embrace and ever hold fast
the blessed hope of everlasting life, which you
have given us in our Savior Jesus Christ; who
lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one
God, for ever and ever. Amen.”

THEME:
Jesus Christ, Son of God, in obedience to the
Father, subordinates his own self-interest and walks the
lonely way to the cross. Is this any way for the Messiah
to behave? Furthermore Jesus calls us to walk the way
of cruciform services with him. If we had known what we
were getting into following Jesus, would we have followed him?
GENESIS 17: 1-7, 15-16:
God comes to Abram and his
wife Sarai, promising them that they shall have a child
and that thereby they will be the parents of a great nation
that shall bless all the nations of the world.
PSALM 22: 23-31
THE LETTER OF PAUL TO THE ROMANS 4: 1325: Paul recalls the story of Abraham, remembering
Abraham as proof that “God was able to do what he had
promised.”
MARK 8: 31-38:
At this point in Mark’s Gospel, Jesus
