LENTEN WORSHIP CONCERT: On Friday, March 20, 2015, the 99
musicians of the Symphonic Band and Golden Voice Choir of Valley
Lutheran High School, Saginaw, MI under the direction of Paul Eschmann
and Rebecca Eifert, will present a Lenten worship concert beginning at
7:00 p.m. here at Trinity. The message of this year’s concert is focused on
the purpose of Christ’s ultimate act of salvation as it is conveyed through
readings and musical offerings. We hope you will attend and bring a friend
to hear this important message of Christ's love for us.
The time before the service is a time of prayer and preparation to receive
the Lord’s gifts of salvation. In addition to prayer, look over the readings
and the words to the hymns during this preparation time.
Please turn off all cell phones and refrain from taking pictures during the
service. Thank you.
GUESTS AND THE LORD'S SUPPER: If you desire to commune, please speak
to one of the pastors before the service. Our altar is open to those who
confess oneness with us in doctrine, are members of our congregation or
sister congregations of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod, and are not
under church discipline in another congregation.
Stewardship Thought for the week...
Mark 8:32 “And he said this plainly. And Peter took him aside and began
to rebuke him.” Anytime we sin we are acting like Peter: thinking we
know better than the Lord. But as Jesus says, such acts stem from Satan.
So let us repent: let us trust our Lord Jesus and follow Him. For certainly
He has earned our trust with His gracious sacrifice for us.

INDIVIDUAL CONFESSION AND ABSOLUTION: Individual Confession
and Absolution times for Lent are 9am – 9:45am Wednesday mornings and
5:30pm – 6:15pm in the Evening at the communion rail in the church.
Individual Confession and Absolution may also be scheduled by
appointment with the pastors. To learn more about it and how it works
look on pages 292-293 in the hymnal. As preparation you may find the
publication “Self-Examination and Reflection: The Ten Commandments
preach Repentance; that is, by them God shows us our sin and how much
we need a Savior,"" helpful. This publication can be found at the various

Genesis 17:1–7, 15–16
When Abram was ninety-nine years old the LORD
appeared to Abram and said to him, “I am God Almighty; walk before me, and be
blameless, 2that I may make my covenant between me and you, and may multiply
you greatly.” 3Then Abram fell on his face. And God said to him, 4“Behold, my
covenant is with you, and you shall be the father of a multitude of nations. 5No
longer shall your name be called Abram, but your name shall be Abraham, for I
have made you the father of a multitude of nations. 6I will make you exceedingly
fruitful, and I will make you into nations, and kings shall come from you. 7And I
will establish my covenant between me and you and your offspring after you

Romans 5:1–11 1Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we have peace

Notes on Today’s Service
Treasures from the Church: “The modern interest in spirituality is a bit like our interest in
health. Our obsession with health is not at all healthy; in fact, it emphasizes the problems
that we have without providing much of a solution to them. So, too, with our concern for
spirituality! Despite the multitude of books on spirituality that can be found in the
bookshop, Christians seem to find it harder than ever to practice what they believe. So
many aspire to be spiritual high fliers but never seem to get off the ground for any length
of time. As the failures mount, so does the fascination with what seemingly cannot be
achieved. The only thing we learn is that something is lacking in this part of our lives. But
we end up with no understanding on how to fill the void. If we have problems living the life
of faith, if we have challenges in our practice of prayer, the solution is not to be found in
what we do, our self-appraisal, or our performance. The solution to our problems is found
in what we receive from God Himself, in His appraisal of us, and in His gifts to us. Like our
physical life and health, our spiritual life is something that is given to us, something that is
to be received and enjoyed and celebrated. Our piety is all a matter of receiving grace
upon grace from the fullness of God the Father. “ Dr. John Kleinig – Grace Upon Grace - CPH
Today’s Readings: In His covenant with Abraham, the Lord promised to be with him, to
bless him and to make him “the father of a multitude of nations.” It is “an everlasting
covenant” in Christ Jesus, the seed of Abraham who is blameless before God Almighty. All
who believe in this Lord Jesus are the offspring of Abraham and are blessed “throughout
their generations” (Gen. 17:1–7), because the Christ has suffered many things. He was
rejected and killed, and after three days He rose again (Mark 8:31). To comprehend this
theology of the cross, we must set our minds “on the things of God,” and not “on the things
of man” (Mark 8:33). “God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ
died for us” (Rom. 5:8). Therefore, having been “reconciled to God by the death of his Son,”
much more “shall we be saved by his life” (Rom. 5:10). Baptized into His cross and
resurrection, “we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ,” and by faith we
rejoice in the hope of His glory (Rom. 5:1–2).
Why Go to Church? Reason #9: To worship: "That Christians are to worship God publicly
is a Biblical given. Behind this given is the reality that we are creatures and God is the
Creator. Everything we are and have is a gift from Him. Therefore, God richly deserves our
worship, our praise, thanks, and prayer. At the heart of New Testament/Christian worship
is the gift of forgiveness that God has given us in Jesus Christ. Because God through Christ
has forgiven us and given eternal life to us out of pure grace, He richly deserves our public
praise and thanks through word and song. When we worship the true God, Father, Son, and
Holy Spirit, we are doing what we were created to do. Worshiping our Creator is being in
sync with who we really are. It is not by accident that the book of Revelation pictures
heaven as a place were the ransomed of the Lord will worship God forevermore. Because
we were created to be worshiping beings, we will worship someone or something. Either
God, our Creator, who alone deserves our worship, or someone or something else:
ourselves, possessions, wealth, a cause, a career, a hobby, or another person." - Rev.

Sermon: Who is Jesus? What do you say? These are two of the most important questions
that have ever been asked. We are at a crossroads as Christians in America. Just as in
every generation since Jesus first asked these words. Will we, as Jesus’ disciples
compromise our confession of Jesus or bear the cross? Are we ready to suffer and endure
all kinds of tribulation or even death because we candidly confess Jesus as the Christ? We
Christians in America are at a turning point! Here is the issue. Will we accommodate with
and give in to a very seductive, elite, aggressively utopian and pious idolatrous secular
culture? Will we cave? Will we compromise the Christian faith, diminish and deny Jesus as
well as His Gospel for the sake of a career, a retirement, a pension, amusement, pleasure,
popularity, success, wealth, or power? Confess Jesus and receive His Gospel of
forgiveness as if your eternal life depends on it and you will suffer for it. Jesus is quite
blunt about it: “If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his
cross and follow me. For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses
his life for me and for the gospel will save it.”

musical gifts are a unique and powerful way to share the
message of Christ with others. This tour is an extension of
that teaching and offers our students the opportunity to
share their faith in that way. Christ’s message, as
presented through our concert, is for all people to hear.
This is the fourth concert of a 5-day, 6-concert tour
through Illinois, Wisconsin, and Michigan.
