RECREATION ACTIVITIES AT INDIAN SHORES MARCH 2015 RECREATION ACTIVITIES ARE HELD IN THE 4TH FLOOR COMMUNITY ROOMS #409 AND #410. NO MEMBERSHIP FEES REQUIRED – YOU PAY THE INSTRUCTOR. ALL VISITORS WELCOME! ALL EXERCISE CLASSES CANCELLED SATURDAY MARCH 14TH FOR ST PATRICK’S DAY FESTIVAL Internet Access: Two Public Computers are available for use in the Computer Room on the 3rd floor in room 305, Monday through Friday, 8:30 am to 3:30 pm, and Saturdays, 10 am to 1 pm. All residents and visitors must purchase a $5 annual library membership card to use the computers. Staff can issue you a card if the Library is closed. Sign up at the administration desk on the third floor to reserve your 30 minute time slot. Appointments may be reserved in advance. We cannot make reservations or take cancellations over the phone due to our limited staff. There is a printer available. The first 5 pages are free, with all additional pages costing 15 cents each. Our municipal building also has Wi-Fi. The password to access the Wi-Fi will be revealed to you when you show us your library membership card. Library Hours: Open Mondays, Tuesday & Thursdays, 1 -4 pm, and Saturdays 10 am– 1 pm, 595-4020 x 701. The Library is located on the 3rd floor in room 307, next to the computer room. Membership is only $5 per year. Newly released books, designated with a “New Book” sticker, are checked out for 2 weeks and cannot be renewed. During the high season, January thru March, only 2 newly released books may be checked out at a time. Older books may be checked out for 2 weeks and are renewable for another 2 weeks. A fine of 5 cents per day or 25 cents per week will be charged for all overdue books. A library book drop box is now available at our Main entrance for your convenience! Oil Painting Class: Beginner and Intermediate Class, Thursdays @ 1 p.m., in the 4th Floor Community Room. Learn about oil paints, brushes, composition, values and color. Study the principles one needs to know to paint landscapes, still life, and photographs. Class includes critiques and demonstrations. Students may work on class projects or choose their subject matter. Classes are small, allowing for individual attention and guidance. Class fees are $25.00 per class. Classes are open to residents and visitors alike. We have fun while sharing new skills with others. Students must pre-register. We invite you to join us for a month, a year or more. Fountain of Youth Fitness: Meets Mondays & Fridays @ 11 am in the 4th floor Community Room. Cost is $5 per class. This class is designed for both men and women interested in a low intensity cardio and toning class that will help them to increase their health and fitness or just maintain it. Gain good foundations in breathing, balance and range of motion exercises in both seated and standing positions, while not getting down onto the floor to do so. The instructor can make modifications to meet each individual’s level of physical ability, as well as instruct you on how you may increase or decrease the intensity of this class if so desired. Hatha Yoga emphasizes the breath, the body and meditation. Come and experience a joyful practice. Bring your own mat, or one will be provided for you. ZUMBA® fitness Join the fun with Liz on Mondays @ 8 am, Wednesdays @ 9 am, and Saturdays Zumba Toning Class @ 9am and Fridays with Terri 9:30 am. Zumba has quickly grown to one of the most popular group exercise classes on the planet! It is designed around Latin international music & rhythm. Zumba® uses a variety of styles, including merengue, salsa, Cumbia, reggae ton, mambo, flamenco, swing, belly dance, line dance, hip hop & more! It consists of easy to follow dance steps. The Zumba® program is designed to motivate everyone regardless of age to get active and adhere to a fitness program. Our Goal is to help you live a better Quality of Life! No dance experience required. Are you ready to party yourself into shape? “Ditch the Workout – Join the Party!” Cost is $5 per class. All classes are open to residents and visitors, however they are limited to 35 per class, and Indian Shores’ participants will be given first priority (must provide proof of residency or ownership). Zumba Gold is perfect for the older active adult, and anyone just starting out. It is designed to be approachable by all populations, regardless of fitness level. Experience with dance is not required. Moves in class are broken down in a slow and manageable manner. The intention of the class is to move a little and have a lot of fun--even if you don't perform each move perfectly. What stays the same are all of the elements of the Zumba Fitness Party: the zesty Latin music and world rhythms; the exhilarating, easy to follow steps to: Merengue, Salsa, Cumbia, Belly Dance, Flamenco, Tango and more! Pilates: This Class Meets Monday and Fridays 12:30pm in the 4th floor Community Room. Cost is $5 per class. Pilates is a total body conditioning exercise method designed to improve your overall agility, core and back strength, balance and flexibility, using slow controlled and orderly exercise movements. Benefits of Pilates are increased muscle strength, flexibility and balance, posture, mental outlook, and provides a good low impact workout, while reducing stress. Pilates is a great workout for functional daily life or sports like golf and tennis and swimming. Please wear comfortable attire and bring a yoga mat, or one will be provided for you. People of all ages can learn the gentle turning and stretching movements which can be adapted to match any level of ability. Whatever one’s state of health, Taoist Tai Chi offers an effective way to maintain, improve or recover health. Thousands of people have found the gentle movements of Tai Chi to be an effective therapy for a wide range of health problems, including poor circulation, high blood pressure, arthritis, back pain, breathing difficulties and digestive and nervous disorder. Jazzercise Strength60: Meets Thursdays @ 8 am in the 4th floor Community Room. Class passes (can be used at additional beach locations): ONE CLASS drop-in =$8.00, 5-class pass = $35.00, 10-class pass = $60 (class passes have no expiration date). Life’s too busy for boring workouts! Music mixes with nearly a full hour of fat-burning, toning, balance work, and laughing! All muscle-all the time. All pets must be leashed, not allowed to run at large, and not allowed on private property without the consent of the property owner. PETS ARE NOT ALLOWED ON THE BEACH or west of the seawall line or erosion control line, per state law. Any pet found in violation may be impounded. You must clean up after your pet or you may be fined. No pets are allowed in Indian Shores’ parks, but the Town has designated dog-walk areas with waste stations as listed below. LOCATION OF PET WALKS AND PET WASTE STATIONS: 1. 191st Ave. & 2nd Street, alongside Nature Park. 2. 192nd Ave. & 2nd Street, on the corner. 3. 193rd Ave. Beach Access across from Town Hall. 4. 196th Ave. the grassy area in front of Tiki Parking . 5. 197th Ave. along fence line by public parking. 6. 200TH Ave. sidewalk area south of La Concha Plaza Tennis Anyone? The Town’s tennis court is located on the north side of the park behind Town Hall, next to the Salt Rock Grill. Reservations are not required and there is no charge for use of the court. The court has recently been resurfaced and relined, and a new net has been installed, so it is in excellent condition. New lights have also been installed and are on a no-fee timer system, so you may now play after dusk when the weather is more comfortable. The court is now on a scheduled maintenance to combat the on-going issue of bird deposits. Hope you “love” our new court and that it “serves” you well!
