GENERAL INFORMATION:
Students currently in Grades K-11 may register for the summer program.
Immediate registration by mail is recommended. Complete the attached
registration form and health form and mail your check or money order, made
payable to the

While registration by mail is recommended, in-person registration will occur
Wednesday, June 10, and Thursday, June 11 at Hampton Middle School from
9:00 AM to 12:00 PM, in the Office. This program is open to both Hampton
residents and non-residents. Tuition cannot be refunded after June 15;
however, a credit will be issued for a later session or the next year for
student cancellations after the deadline.
CLASS TIMES: Classes meet for five consecutive days, Monday through
Friday, at Hampton Middle School. Please pay particular attention to class
times, as a few are only one-and-a-half or two hours in length. Most classes
are three hours in length, 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM.
**DROP-OFF**
Students should enter through the library entrance, door #16, which is at the rear of
the building. Students will go to the library where they will be met by their teachers.
**PICK-UP**
All students will be escorted to the parking lot outside the library entrance, door #16.
Please plan to meet your child there. If you have made arrangements for your child to
carpool with another student, you must provide the teacher with a note.

SUMMER THEATER
Please join us for a culminating
THIS IS A TWO WEEK COURSE: 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM
JUNE 15-JUNE 19 and JUNE 22-JUNE 26
performance on Friday, June 26,
at 11:00 am in the HMS auditorium.
Come and join our elementary summer theater program! Our goal is to create a production of the school version of
a play to be determined. We are hoping to improve the students’ oral reading fluency, expression, and public
speaking skills in a creative and fun way. The students will audition for given roles and must learn to work
cooperatively with each other to learn their lines, as well as to create scenery. Throughout the program, the
students will be required to memorize their lines, design a set for a play, learn music and perform it, and develop
costumes for their performance.

Successful babysitting experiences require the
caregiver to provide a fun and safe environment. This
course provides future babysitters the opportunity to
learn about safety, proper nutrition and behavior
management. In addition, students will create games and
activities, as well as materials for advertising. By the
end of the week, students will have had the opportunity
to become CPR and FIRST AID CERTIFIED. All
participants will receive a certificate of completion.
Have you seen the 3-D Printers on some of your favorite
television shows? This summer experience will provide
participants the opportunity to learn to use 3-D design
software and print those designs using the Middle
School’s 3-D printers!

#004-1 KID’S COOKING: WORLD CUISINE
Grades: 4-8
Working in a kitchen with different foods is a lot like a
scientist working in a lab. Come experience a science lab
where all of your creations are edible!
Come travel the world through food!
Students will have hands-on experience
preparing and tasting dishes from
American, French, Asian, Italian, and Mexican cultures.
One day will be spent on each culture. In addition to the
food preparation, students will learn about meal-time
traditions that surround each dish, which are specific to
its region of the world.

#005-1 KNITTING & CROCHETING
Grades: 6-8
Ever wondered about those fancy,
fashionable scarves that some of the
teachers wear? Well, come to this program and learn
the fine arts of knitting and crocheting! By the end of
the week, you will have been introduced to both crafts
and will be well on your way to having your first yarn
creation. Knitting needles and crochet hooks will be
provided. Participants may want to bring their own yarn
to personalize their projects.

Do you love to play video games? How about learning how
to create your own? Learn the basics of computer
programming using Hopscotch, Tynker, and Cargo-Bot to
create your very own unique games and animations!
After learning how to create them, how about using your
reading, writing, and math skills to create amazing and
unique worlds in Minecraft?!

APPLICATION ESSAY
Grades: 8-11
Did you know that the Common Application, accepted by
most colleges, is making changes to all college essay
requirements? Do you want to be prepared to face
these new challenges and present your strongest
qualities to your dream college? This course is designed
for students who want to produce polished and
professional college applications. This course will
introduce students to the process of completing a
college application with a focus on the application essay.
The college application essay is an opportunity for
students to differentiate themselves from other
applicants and show colleges what unique perspectives,
experiences, and personalities they have to offer.
Students will examine various college application essay
examples and determine what makes an effective
application essay before composing and revising their
own essays for submission to colleges.

009-1 MATH SAT PREP
Grades: 9-11
Feeling anxious about the most important test all college
bound students must take? Calm your fears with
preparation! In the Reading and Writing SAT Prep
summer course, we will review concepts found on the
SATs including vocabulary, passage comprehension,
sentence structure, grammar, usage, and composition.
We will also cover test taking strategies for multiple
choice questions and timed writing assignments.
The course will follow The Official SAT Study Guide,
which can also be used in the Math SAT Prep course.
Students must purchase a copy of this book the first
day of class (please bring $20). Recommended for
students taking the SAT prior to March 2016!
This quick SAT Preparation course for Math will provide
a review to further develop mathematical skills
including numbers and operations, algebra, geometry,
measurement, data analysis, and probability. All of
these subjects are eligible content for the SAT. The
students will learn test-taking strategies geared to
both multiple choice problems and open-ended questions.
Students will practice these skills by interacting in
activities on the Smart Board and by taking multiple
practice tests. The course will follow The Official SAT
Study Guide, which can also be used in the Reading &
Writing SAT Prep course. Students must purchase a
copy of this book the first day of class (please bring
$20). Recommended for students taking the SAT

Apply your engineering skills to the Sewing Lab while
learning how to use the sewing machines and complete
small projects. You will also learn general rules for using
patterns to create your own summer-wear item. Plan to
bring in cotton or fleece to make fun summer pants
(2 yards) or shorts (1½ yards).

#012-1 LA SEMANA DE ESPANOL
Grades: K-4
Join us for a week-long fiesta! Each day will begin with
a "field trip" to a different Spanish-speaking country.
Join us as we taste test foods, play games, and listen to
music from around the world. You might even learn
some Spanish along the way.

#011-1 SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE?

SESSION I
Join us for a week of exciting beginner jazz, hip-hop
and tumbling classes! Get ready to move to the music as
we explore different rhythms and coordination with
music, props, and imaginations through these popular
styles of dance seen on TV shows such as Shake It Up,
So You Think You Can Dance and more! Jazz is a fun and
energetic style. Hip-hop focuses on rhythm, musicality
and basic footwork. It is a great way to get you moving!
Tumbling will include the basic fundamentals, such as
forward rolls, backward rolls, handstands, cartwheels,
and round-offs. The instructor will assist each student
with spotting techniques to ensure safety and proper
alignment. No previous dance experience required.

Summer Intramurals is a chance to play team sports and other games in a semi-competitive
environment where the focus is movement, fitness, teamwork, and just playing to play. We will play a variety of
outdoor and indoor team sports and games depending on the grade level.

Do you love to explore and create with art materials? If
you like to try new things in art, this may be the
class for you! Each day, we will explore a new medium.
Students will draw, paint, sculpt, weave, and print.
Please bring a pencil, sketchbook if you have one, and
wear an art shirt to class.

#018-2 INTRODUCTION TO DEBATE
Grades: 6-11
In the Introduction to Debate course, students will be
provided with the fundamental research, writing, and
speaking skills to become successful speakers and
debaters. This course is open to students with or
without experience in speech and debate and may be
especially helpful to those who wish to improve their
classroom discussion and presentation skills. The course
will culminate in a small debate tournament in which
students will present their final cases in front of a panel
of judges.

Come together to battle with your peers
for the best tasting and healthiest
dishes. Students will create recipes
that include one protein, one veggie and
fruit of different colors, one whole grain, and one
dessert. Cook it for a panel of expert judges as a
culminating activity!

I have traveled the world and want to
share my adventures with you! Let's
explore different countries through
stories, art, games, snacks, video clips,
and more! This class will bring foreign countries and
cultures to life in exciting ways!
This quick SAT Preparation course for Math will provide

Summer Intramurals is a chance to play team sports and
other games in a semi-competitive environment where
the focus is movement, fitness, teamwork, and just
playing to play. We will play a variety of outdoor and
indoor team sports and games depending on the grade
level.
In the Spring of 2016, students across the nation will
take the newly-redesigned SAT for the first time. Get a
head start on your preparation for the new evidencebased reading and writing questions. This course will
introduce students to the new question types and review
the skills required for success, including using evidence
to support arguments, rhetorically analyzing a text, and
using context clues to identify the meaning of relevant
vocabulary words. Students will also be given instruction
on the newly-redesigned SAT essay. Recommended for
students taking the SAT after March 2016!

Trying to keep up with your dance
technique over the summer? Join us for
a dance technique boot camp! There will be stretching,
conditioning, leaping and turning for dancers of any
level. Bring a water bottle ― this isn't your little
sister's dance class!
Do you love to weave or sew?
In this camp we will be doing both to create fun and
functional art! Projects include sewing stuffed animals,
basket weaving, fabric dying and much more! Bring a
prewashed, plain white shirt to the first day of camp

#027-3 INTERMEDIATE/ADVANCED HIP HOP
Grades: 6-11
Class begins with a full body warm up that incorporates
neck, torso and hip isolations to prepare dancers for the
class combination. New combinations are taught in class
each day which focus on musicality, dynamics, style,
transitions and technique. Hip Hop fuses hard-hitting
movements with flow and style.
Dancers will learn choreography
that will challenge them physically
and intellectually. Any type of
comfortable tennis shoes or combat
boots can be worn in class. Rebecca Miller is an
instructor at Millennium Dance Complex Pittsburgh.
