" IKKɛ promotes intestinal tumorigenesis via establishing a proinflammatory microenvironment"

Recruitment of immune cells to solid tumors is an essential prerequisite of tumor development.
However, the molecular pathways resulting in efficient inflammatory cell activation to initiate a
tumor favoring microenvironment is not totally understood. Here we identify intestinal epithelial
secreted IKK-related kinase, IKKɛ, as an indispensable moderator of IL-17 signaling which is
required for the enhanced cytokine and chemokine expression via intestinal epithelial cells. Mice
deficient in IKKɛ are largely protected from intestinal tumor development that is dependent on
the enhanced recruitment of pro-inflammatory cells which are required for establishment and
exacerbation of pro-inflammatory tumor microenvironment.
