Weekly Bulletin - Byram Hills Central School District
March 13, 2015 Peggy McInerney, Principal MaryBeth Crupi, Assistant Principal Dear Parents and Guardians, DATES TO REMEMBER Every day dismissal is an exciting time at Coman Hill. Our faculty and staff work exceptionally hard to ensure that students are safely dismissed from school. I ask that you continue to ensure the safety of our students too. If you are picking up your child at dismissal from Coman Hill, please make sure that you hold the hands of your children (especially your preschoolers) when walking from your car into the school and vice versa. During dismissal there are many vehicles in motion entering and exiting Coman Hill. It is so important that all of the children on our school grounds are safe. MONDAY & TUESDAY, MARCH 16 & 17 9:30 A.M. - 12:30 P.M. KINDERGARTEN REGISTRATION TUESDAY, MARCH 17, 7:30 P.M. BOARD OF EDUCATION MEETING & BUDGET HEARING II – D.O. FRIDAY, MARCH 20 REPORT CARDS SENT HOME VIA PARENT PORTAL I appreciate your help in ensuring the safety of all children. I would like to especially thank Tamara Leopold and Vanessa Flores for all their help with Nutrition Week. Thank you and have a great weekend. Sincerely, Peggy The Coman Hill Bulletin 1 Page 2 TechTips for Coman Hill: TechSmart is a program by the Byram Hills PTSA to provide information, programs and resources to help families navigate parenting issues related to the internet, media and technology. March TechTip – Instagram Photo Maps and Tagging. If (or when) your child uses Instagram, parents need to understand these two features. The Photo Map feature allows any follower to see – and KNOW – the precise location where the picture was taken or where the device was located at the time of posting. This may be your HOME ADDRESS. What can you do? Ask your child if they use Photo Maps and if so, ask to see what locations are on their map. Show your child how this feature exploits their (and your family’s) privacy. To disable Photo Maps for iOS devices: go to Settings / General / Restrictions / Location Services, scroll down to Instagram, under Allow Location Access tap Never. To disable Photo Maps for Android devices: go to Settings and turn off Location Services. The Tagging features allows people to be tagged in a photo, even if they are not actually in the photo. While you cannot prevent someone from tagging you, you can block images from appearing in your profile. Here’s how: Go to your Instagram profile and tap the tagged photos icon. Then tap the settings icon and select Add Manually. If someone tags you in a photo, it will not appear in your profile until you approve it. Communication is key. Speak with your child about the importance of only connecting with people they know, sharing content that is positive and appropriate, and asking for help from a trusted adult.
