Systems/ERP Implementation Issues
• Data integration and business process changes across
corporate functions
According to Gartner, “companies
allocating less than 13 percent of
project costs to training are three
times more likely to have their
ERP projects fall short of business
and project goals compared with
companies that spend 17 percent or
more on training.”
• Impacts to finance, manufacturing, sales, distribution and
human resources
• Changing employee roles within new interdepartmental
dependencies
• New methods of data input, processing and reporting
Systems/ERP Training Project Key Success Factors
• High level of employee engagement
• Alignment between training and the business
• A knowledgeable training team able to implement a
comprehensive training strategy
• Incorporation of feedback mechanisms and ERP metrics
into the training strategy
• Role-based curriculum that differentiates the user population
Questions to Consider
• Does my organization have the expertise to define
the training needs for the range of jobs impacted by the
implementation?
• How can I ensure the right people are receiving the right
training that maximizes my training investment?
• How do I balance expert-led training at an optimal time
between deployment and usage on the job to ensure
maximum retention of learning?
• What capabilities and experience does my organization
have to support local deployments and strategic
localization of content?
• How will my organization ensure that end users have
access to resources to extend and reinforce their learning? Some or all of the services described herein may not be permissible for KPMG audit clients and their affiliates.

Case Study
One of the world’s leading healthcare organizations
spun off its pharmaceutical division, creating a separate
Fortune 200 company focused on proprietary pharmaceuticals.
The new organization initiated a program to standardize
global processes, outsource heavy SAP processes,
launch new Finance Operations, HR and Payroll organizations,
and consolidate more than fifty legacy systems into a single
SAP environment.
KPMG partnered with the client to deliver a comprehensive
learning and development solution that:
• Mapped over 5,000 employees to future state roles and
training in 76 countries
• Developed 300 web-based and instructor-led courses
• Designed over 250 exercise scenarios to accompany
instructor-led trainings
• Created 300 job aids with detailed process information
specific to job roles
• Delivered end user training in multiple process areas across
Finance, Operations, HR and Payroll
• Supported the client-side logistics team during the delivery
of training
• Developed and executed a global train-the-trainer program to
enable delivery and sustainment of future training
• Executed onsite focus groups to collect end user feedback
With the help of KPMG, a robust, blended training program
was globally deployed and provided end users with the
process knowledge, policy guidance and system skills
that accelerated user adoption and operational readiness
within 4-6 weeks per location.

KPMG Value Proposition
We recognize that the complexity of implementing an ERP system warrants the full-time, dedicated and
independent focus of an unbiased partner. KPMG is best suited to support organizations during their
IT Transformation and highlighted below is what differentiates us from other firms:
• A Focus on Business Transformation and Measurable Value: KPMG is a business integrator; not
a systems integrator. Our experience advising clients how to maximize benefit from their business
transactions provides us unique and deep skills necessary to identify measurable value. We apply this
same perspective to organizational change management and training.
• Learning and Development Excellence: Our services are industry acclaimed, having been recently
recognized by both Kennedy Consulting and Training Magazine.
• Ability to Scale Across the Globe and Within Your Industry: With an international network of
more than 155,000 professionals across 155 countries, KPMG can quickly and knowledgably serve
organizations everywhere.
• ERP Knowledge that Drives a Better Learning and Development Approach: Our extensive network
of advisory professionals has a “business-first mindset,” borne of System Integration experience.
Understanding the challenges of implementing an ERP enables us to recommend the best way to drive
business value and manage the learning and development process.
• Multi Vendor Collaborative Approach to Training that Complements the Systems Integrator (SI):
We typically serve on large multi-vendor ERP programs as an independent Training, Behavioral Change
Management, PMO or Third Party Advisor, allowing us to complement the SI’s areas of expertise while
focusing on what is most important – the organization.
• Integration with Change Management: Our proactive approach to change management spans every
phase of an implementation with support structures (change agent networks, feedback mechanisms,
etc.) that drive significant end user adoption after training is complete and the system has gone live.
• A Focus on Process Training in Addition to Systems Training: We emphasize the link between
business process changes and new system procedures thereby driving greater understanding of the
business changes end users encounter. Our approach brings ownership to end users impacted by large
scale system implementations.
