Wednesday, March 18, 2015 NEW ANNOUNCEMENTS Attention Student Government Members: Today’s Student Government meeting will be after school in the High School Theater, NOT the Conference Center. Attention FBLA Members: The FBLA Mini Conference at Pitt for this Friday has been canceled. It will not be rescheduled. If you have already paid for this conference, your money will be returned to you. Attention All Students: Career Fair permission forms are due to Mrs. Quirk by this Fri., March 20th. The Business, Information, Government and Law Career Fairs are on March 26th and April 16th. Remember that this is a required component of the Graduation Project! Attention Cast, Crew and Orchestra Pit for Fiddler on the Roof: Don’t forget to bring your $3 to Lindsey Myers by rehearsal today! Attention All Students: If you are interested in playing on the South Fayette Middle School or Varsity Hockey Team next season ( 2015-2016), please join our Middle School & Varsity coaches for any or all of the Tryout Prep sessions on the following dates: · · · · Monday, March 23 from 7-8:20 pm Tuesday, March 24 from 5:30-6:50 pm Sunday, March 29 from 6-7:20 pm Monday, March 30th from 7-8:20 pm The camps will be all be held at Bethel BladeRunners Ice Complex at a $25 charge (in total) for all Middle School and High School age players who are: 1) 2) 3) Enrolled in South Fayette School District (Varsity) or live in South Fayette (Middle School) Have a current USA Hockey Registration (see Note) For 2015-2016 school year, are: – Middle School Team Eligible, if Bantam age (2001/2002 birth years) or 2nd year PeeWee age (2003 birth year) & in the 6th-8th grade – Varsity Team Eligible, if in the 9th -12th grade Note: Current MS and Varsity players do not have to provide a current USA Hockey Registration but any new players must bring proof of USA Hockey Registration to the first session. While the players are out on the ice, parents will have the opportunity to talk to one of several board members about information regarding the club, registration, fees, schedule, and general information regarding the 2015-2016 season. OLD ANNOUNCEMENTS Attention Indoor Track Team: All indoor track team members are to wear their SF track attire (preferably) or green and white tomorrow, Wed., March 18th for their team picture. Please report to the Gym Lobby to meet Mrs. Marchinky’s this WEDNESDAY at 1:50 PM for the picture. 1 Attention Students: Attention all students who have an Independent Study experience this Nine Weeks. Please schedule your meeting with Mr. Skrbin as soon as possible for the 3rd Nine Weeks which is Friday. Meetings normally take approximately 10 to 15 minutes. Remember to bring your weekly logs. See Mrs. Holley to schedule your times. Attention All Students: Just a reminder that the Circle of Friends Penny Challenge end this Fri., March 20th. Please bring pennies to your 1st period classes for collection. All money collected will go to programs and sports teams for kids with special needs. The class that raises the most will go to the movies in April and get to hold the winner’s trophy for a year! Second place will get movie passes. The other school buildings in the district will be involved as well. We’ve done a great job here at South Fayette in years past and are hoping to continue the tradition. Good Job LGM: Congratulations goes out to our SF “Little Green Machine” Marching Band for winning The County Executive’s Award for “Best School Band from Allegheny County” for their performance in the annual Pittsburgh’s St. Patrick’s Day Parade which was this past Saturday, March 14th. Way to go band!! Attention Freshmen, Sophomore, and Junior Girls: If you are interested in being an active participant, leader, and student mentor in this year's “Girls Night Out Program”, please stop in the Guidance Office to pick up an application. The deadline for submission is April 2, 2015! HS Spring Musical Announcement: The SF High School Fine Arts Department proudly presents the classic musical, “FIDDLER ON THE ROOF” this week on Fri., March 20, at 7:30 PM; Sat., March 21 at 7:30 PM and Sun., March 22 at 2:30 PM in the High School Theatre! Reserved seating - $10.00 for Adults, $7.00 for Children/Students/Senior Citizens. The Box Office will be open this week to purchase tickets on Mon., March 16 from 2:00-4:00 PM and March 18 from 6:00-8:00 PM. Attention all Students: Student Government will be having its next meeting today, Wed., March 18th, after school in the High School Theatre. We are looking for new members from all grades, so if you are interested in joining Student Government, please attend the meeting. Student Government holds meetings every Wednesday after school in the Conference Center, so even if you cannot attend this meeting, please try to attend another upcoming meeting. Please see Mr. Yerace, Mrs. Clonan, Mr. Flannery, or Mr. McArdle for more information. Attention all Students: If you are interested in signing up for the Mini-THON in April, please go to Mr. Flannery’s room to get your signup forms. All money raised from the event will go to support the Four Diamonds Fund to fight childhood cancer. Last year we had thirty teams and over 250 students participate and raised over $21,000, and we hope to see you at this year’s event! A reminder to all team captains that you should be getting your team members signed up on DonorDrive as soon as possible. Attention all Students and Faculty: Student Government is once again sponsoring a March Madness Bracket contest this year. You can pick up your brackets from the Student Government table outside the Commons during all lunches next week. All brackets must be submitted by the end of Period 8 lunch on March 19th, or to Mr. McArdle’s room, AB221, by the end of Period 8. It is free to enter, however, you may only enter one bracket. The people who score the most points by selecting the most correct winners will win a Dick’s gift certificate. So make sure to fill out your bracket for the tournament! Attention all Students and Faculty: Student Government is sponsoring “College Shirt Day” on Friday, March 20th, for March Madness. Make sure you wear your team’s favorite shirt or jersey on March 20th to show your support! Attention All Students: Did miss seeing the movie “The Book of Life” in the Theater in October? Well, now here’s your chance to see it! Come to the Spanish Club Meeting after school in Room AA201 this Thur., March 19th 3:30 PM to watch the movie and have a few meriendas mexicanas. Please bring $2 for the event. 2 Attention Seniors: The Bridgeville-South Fayette Rotary Club Scholarship is now available. Two seniors will be selected by the Rotarians to be honored with a scholarship and luncheon. The selection committee will consider community service and academic success. Applications have been sent home to all sophomores and juniors who qualify. Applications must be turned in to Mrs. Roth, Okel, or Quirk no later than Monday, March 16th. Attention Seniors: The SF Township Police Association is offering a $500.00 scholarship to students interested in attending college to study criminal justice. Applications are available in the Guidance Office. The deadline is April 8, 2015. Attention Students: If you are interested in outdoor careers in recreation, conservation and natural resources, consider attending ECO (Exploring Careers Outdoors) Camp. The camp will be July 12-17 and is open to students entering grades 10-12. Applicants must have a minimum of a "C" average. Volunteers are needed for the annual Easter Bunny Breakfast and Egg Hunt which will be held on Sat., March 28th. Do you like to work with small children? You can help hide eggs and serve food. Volunteers can sign up in the Guidance Office or Room AB215 or the Mane Store. Attention Seniors: The scholarship list has been updated! Included on the list is the Joseph Kimutis Memorial Scholarship, which is a local scholarship. Please stop in the Guidance Office if you are interested in applying for the Kimutis Scholarship due April 15, 2015. Also a reminder that the Nathan Ostrowski Memorial Scholarship deadline is April 7th. Please submit on time if you are applying for any of these scholarships. Attention Juniors: Students who are interested in a Service Academy Congressional nomination are invited to meet with the Honorable Tim Murphy on Saturday, April 11 at Chartiers Valley High School. The event will begin at 8:30 AM. Representatives from each of the four service academies (Air Force, Navy, Military and Merchant Marines) will provide information to students and parents. If you are planning on attending, please stop in the Guidance Office to pick up a required form. Attention Juniors: Chartiers Valley High School is hosting a FREE Mini ACT Practice Test on Thurs., March 26 from 6:00-8:00 PM. Experienced test-prep tutor, Phil McCaffrey, will cut a previous ACT in half, proctor the test, and then score it for you. For more information, contact Phil McCaffrey at 412-855-5535. See Mrs. Shrewsbury today. 3 Attention All Students: Not able to stay after school for math tutoring? If you need to get help on a homework assignment, review for a test, or just simply receive additional practice, you now have the option to do so before school. The math department is now offering AM tutoring 3 days a week. Mrs. Palmer and Ms. Roche will be available for math tutoring on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 6:30 – 7:05 AM in Mrs. Ullom's Room AB111. Hope to see you there!
