March 17, 2015 INDIAN INDICES MORNING BELL Index Market at a Glance SGX Nifty directs a positive opening on the domestic bourses. Meanwhile Asian stocks are trading higher after a rebound in U.S. equities, as weak economic data eased speculation the Federal Reserve will bring forward plans to raise interest rates. Back home, traders will react to WPI numbers released yesterday. Inflation, as measured by the wholesale price index (WPI), fell to a steep 2.06 per cent, marking the fourth straight month of deflating prices. Data released by the government showed that yearonyear inflation fell to the lowest level since it has been tracked in the current 2005 series. This decline in inflation will keep investors on toes as they expect rate cut by the RBI in order to boost industrial and consumer demand and lowering of interest rates and easy credit availability. Investors will keep an eye on the on goings of the FOMC meet starting tomorrow. On the macro front, IMF chief Christine Lagarde said that the Indian economy, whose size is $2 trillion as of now, is poised to overtake the combined GDP of Japan and Germany in the next four years on the back of recent policy reforms and improved business confidence in the country. This is likely to boost the confidence of FIIs. 16/03/15 BSE SENSEX Pt Chg % Chg 28,438 (66) (0.2) 8,633 (15) (0.2) BSE MIDCAP 10,758 (36) (0.3) BSE SMALLCAP 11,112 (98) (0.9) CNX MIDCAP 13,105 (50) (0.4) BANK NIFTY 18,837 58 0.3 IT 11,757 135 1.2 REALTY 1,759 20 1.1 METAL 9,566 (145) (1.5) FMCG 8,017 (78) (1.0) NSE NIFTY GLOBAL INDICES Wall Street Update Index U.S. stocks rose and the dollar’s rally took a breather, as investors stayed on their toes ahead of the Federal Reserve’s policy meeting this week against a milieu of easier economic news. Fed officials are widely expected to alter the guidance they give the public about interest rates as the meeting concludes on Wednesday, dropping an assurance that they will be “patient” in deciding when to start raising rates. Moreover, low inflation could give Fed officials a gap about rate increases. Expectations of a Fed rate increase have in recent weeks capped stocks’ rally, sent bond yields higher and fuelled a surge in the U.S. dollar against the euro to a 12year high. 16/03/15 DOW JONES Pt Chg % Chg 17,977 228 1.3 NASDAQ 4,930 58 1.2 FTSE 6,804 64 0.9 12,168 266 2.2 DAX Index * 17/03/15 Pt Chg % Chg NIKKEI 225 19,407 161 0.8 HANG SENG 23,987 37 0.2 3,474 25 0.7 2,017 30 1.5 8,867 60 0.7 Previous Day Roundup (Domestic) Indian equity markets ended Monday's trading session lower on account of selling in SHANGHAI COMPOSITE frontline blue chip counters.
