NEWSLETTER 26 March 2015 Stella Maris Catholic Primary School Dear Families N E W S L E T T E R This Sunday we move into the last week of preparation for Easter. The Jews had been longing for a great leader, like one of their Kings of old, who would lead them to victory against the Roman invaders. They thought that Jesus might be that leader. At this time of Passover many Jews gathered in Jerusalem to remember how God had saved them from slavery. But by his actions he shows everyone that he is no earthly king or soldier – he comes as the King of peace, love and forgiveness. This is why he chose to enter the city riding on a donkey, commonly used for carrying loads, rather than a battle horse. It is important at this time to focus on the agony and desolation of the passion, but to remember most importantly Jesus rose from the dead. This is the foundation of our faith. We wish our “Soapbox Derby” team all the very best for their races this Saturday. They have spent a good deal of time preparing for the event with wonderful support from staff and parents. Congratulations to the following students who were awarded certificates at assembly: St Mary James Williams-Horgan St Lucy Joshua Fernandez, Elizabeth Beckett St Benedict Jamie Thorpe St Leo Lochlainn Reid, Maya Timlin St Nicholas Nick Ellis, Ruby Tait St Francis Adam Viscoe, Eloise Dance St Joachim Tiffiny McVeigh, Lorelei Slater, Logan Giddy St Peter Victoria Knight, Lily-Anne Humphreys St Anthony Ashton Savage, Georgia Brackebush, Holly Gray, Jaron Hobman St Joseph Keanu Savage, Jayden Churches St Augustine Phoebe Street, Joshua Blackman St Dominic Mackenzie Felton, Luc Bull St Patrick Charlie McKenzie-Linnell, Amy Shimwell Team News Matikao Team: This week in Matikao team, we continue to focus on independently getting ready for learning. You can support your child by helping establish and reinforce good Home Learning routines – especially filling in the Reading Log each night. Our regular Tuesday afternoon sports sessions where the classes rotate around different games and different teachers is proving to be a wonderful opportunity to practice the Key Competency of relating to others. We will continue with this rotation next term. Your child needs to bring PE gear to school every day, but especially Tuesdays. Thank you for your support. He goes up to Jerusalem in order to fulfil the Scriptures and to be nailed to the wood of the Cross, the throne from which he will reign for ever, drawing to himself humanity of every age and offering to all the gift of redemption.
