Wedding Style Trends for 2016
Wedding Style Trends for 2016
Hi, it’s Sukey from Dress for the Wedding! It’s the cozy winter season, but I
hope you’re planning to venture out in less than 2 months to see me at Your
Wedding Experience, Philadelphia on February 28th. We’re just a few weeks in
to 2016, and there is no better time to get ideas for the upcoming wedding
season! Today, we’re going to preview wedding style trends for 2016!
One of the wonderful things about wedding fashion is that we get a preview of
what is to come for 2016 when new wedding fashions hit the runways in late
2015. Because of this, some of the trends we’ll see in 2016 are usually
foreshadowed in those 2015 sneak peeks. However, the biggest factor what the
wedding trends will be is really up to the couples getting married in 2016. A
wedding is about picking the ideas you love and making those ideas part of
your celebration! Here are a few of the fashion trends we think might be
seeing more of in 2016 weddings.
Wedding Style Trends for 2016
Hi-Low Hems
Having trouble deciding between a short dress and a full-length ball gown?
This season you’re in luck, because many designers are showing hi-low
hemlines. This style gives the drama and formality of a full-length gown,
combined with the interest and charm of a shorter gown. This option is found
in wedding dresses, bridesmaid dresses, and also in plenty of dresses for
wedding guests.

Deep Necklines
A plunging neckline on a wedding gown used to be considered a daring and
risqué choice, but the creative use of sheer fabrics to provide structure and
support has made plunging necklines much more wearable. These styles offer
the perfect mix of appeal and refinement.

Shoulder Details
A strapless wedding dress will always be a classic, but there are many
options now for up-top coverage from simple off-the-shoulder necklines that
end in a flutter sleeve or cowl back, to add-on pieces like capes,
embellished collars, and shoulder necklaces. These styles bring attention to
the face, shoulders, and décolleté in a lovely way.
Sheer Overlays
Overlays aren’t just for draping over shoulders and bodices. Beautiful
details can be suspended over the any part of the gown thanks to sheer
fabrics that allow these intricate details to seemingly float over the
surface of the form.
Side Details
Side cut-outs, sheer lace panels, and other details that frame the sides of
the body and midriff give flattering focus to waists.
Bridal Separates and Two-Piece Wedding Dresses
This trend has been blossoming for a few years, but now there so many more
options than ever before. A customized look can be created by combining
a separate top, skirt, and accessories, which blend seamlessly so that the
pieces appear to be all one gown. Other styles feature distinct separates so
that the two-piece look is clear. The two-piece look is also showing up for
bridesmaids, with several lines now offering skirt and top combinations.
‘Edan’ from David Tutera for Mon Cheri features a removable
overlay skirt, dimensional details, and lots of embellishment,
illustrating several of this season’s top bridal trends.
Dimensional Details
Hand-sewn fabric flowers, jewel-like stones, and textured laces make for
looks that truly pop with dimension and texture. Suiting also is getting more
tactile, with woven jacquards and subtly patterned fabrics.
Low Back Wedding Dresses
The back of the wedding dress has become just as important as the front.
Whether the open back highlights a bit of detail or is left completely open
for a dramatic effect, a low cut back wedding gown always makes a statement.
Added Embellishment
Jeweled shoes, embellished bodices, and beaded accessories will continue to
be popular as well, giving even more sparkle, facets, and texture to 2016
wedding looks.
Suiting
Custom colors and richer textures in suiting fabric mean that the simple
tuxedo or suit is getting more personalized, which gives so many choices for
grooms, groomsmen, and bridesmen. Offerings for wedding suits or jumpsuits
for brides, mothers, and female attendants are expanding as well, available
in just as many colors and flattering styles.

Unique Mismatched Looks
Mismatched wedding party style has been trending for several years now, and
we believe this will not only continue, but expand into palettes that offer
more contrast between colors, and dresses that use an even broader ranges of
textures. This more open approach to style will also allow for a mix of very
different silhouettes like the skirts, suits, and separates.
Serenity and Rose Quartz
Pantone’s first-ever selection of two colors of the year reflects an open
approach choices of the trends this year. The ‘Color of the Year’ pick often
finds it way quickly into wedding attire and wedding décor for the year. With
two easy-to-wear shades — soft soothing blue and rosy pink — we feel
confident that these colors will be spotted in many 2016 weddings!
