MURDER ON CUE
QUARTET
by Robin Jennifer Miller
by RONALD HARWOOD
Murder On Cue is a murder mystery set in Maple
Lodge, a retirement home for actors, where gossip
and old rivalries sustain the residents as much as
the dry sherry and shepherd’s pie. A fall of snow
means the home is cut off from the outside world. No-one can leave. There are many rivalries between,
and old grudges held by, the residents, brought to
the fore by a spate of poison pen letters. It would
appear that everyone has cause to dislike one of the
residents, but who would go as far as murder to
exact their revenge?
Cecily, Reggie and Wilfred are in a home for retired
opera singers. Each year, on the 10th October, there
is a concert to celebrate Verdi’s Birthday. Jean, who
used be married Reggie, arrives at the home and
disrupts their equilibrium. She still acts like a diva and
refuses to sing, but the show must go on… By turns
funny and poignant Quartet premiered in September
1999 at The Albery Theatre, London it was then made
into a highly successful film starring Billy Connelly,
Maggie Smith, Tom Courtney and Pauline Collins.

“I am innocent to a witch! I know not what a witch is!”
“How do you know then, that you are not a witch?”
In a small tightknit community,
personal grievances
collide with lust and
superstition, fuelling
widespread hysteria.
Arthur Miller’s
timeless parable
attacks the evils of mindless persecution and the
terrifying power of false accusations. The Suttoners
will take this play to Sutton’s twin town in Germany,
Minden, following these performances.

JEKYLL AND HYDE
An evocative tale
of the epic battle
between good and
evil, Jekyll & Hyde
is based on Robert
Louis Stevenson’s
classic story about
a brilliant doctor
who experiments with human personality to create an
evil and murderous counterpart. Convinced the cure
for his father’s mental illness lies in the separation
of Man’s evil nature from his good, Dr. Henry Jekyll
unwittingly unleashes his own dark side, wreaking
havoc in the streets of late 19th-century London as
the savage, maniacal Edward Hyde.
