Sutton Theatres Trust will be taking over the management of both theatres from the Council. The exact date is still under negotiation, but provisionally the transition to new ownership will begin from Spring 2015 with a new season of exciting year-round programming launching in October 2015. We’re thrilled to be leading the theatres into this new phase. Look out for lots of exciting shows, events and activities to come. Directed by Jeni Draper Exploring the impact of young onset dementia on two very different families, Don’t Leave Me Now is inspired by two real life stories. With authenticity, insight and humour, New End Theatre Beyond weaves the strands of these stories together to create a documentary style production highlighting the emotions, dilemmas and challenges experienced by people affected by dementia. Dementia Pathfinders is working in association with St George’s Healthcare NHS Trust to raise awareness of dementia in local communities in south west London. Each performance will be followed by a postshow discussion with the cast and director. HIGGS has a natural presentation and the understanding of the sensitive subject of ‘Is there life after death?’ contacting loved ones who have passed to the higher realm. Together with ‘Psychic Cop’ Keith CHARLES and ‘Unique’ Ivan LEE, they aim to explore the spirit world with passion, respect and dignity. This amusing story, about an eccentric toy maker who makes a wonderful life-like mechanical doll, will appeal to the whole family. A fall of snow means the home is cut off from the outside world. No-one can leave. There are many rivalries between, and old grudges held by, the residents, brought to the fore by a spate of poison pen letters. It would appear that everyone has cause to dislike one of the residents, but who would go as far as murder to exact their revenge? Cecily, Reggie and Wilfred are in a home for retired opera singers. Each year, on the 10th October, there is a concert to celebrate Verdi’s Birthday. Jean, who used be married Reggie, arrives at the home and disrupts their equilibrium. She still acts like a diva and refuses to sing, but the show must go on… By turns funny and poignant Quartet premiered in September 1999 at The Albery Theatre, London it was then made into a highly successful film starring Billy Connelly, Maggie Smith, Tom Courtney and Pauline Collins. Arthur Miller’s timeless parable attacks the evils of mindless persecution and the terrifying power of false accusations. The Suttoners will take this play to Sutton’s twin town in Germany, Minden, following these performances. Convinced the cure for his father’s mental illness lies in the separation of Man’s evil nature from his good, Dr. Henry Jekyll unwittingly unleashes his own dark side, wreaking havoc in the streets of late 19th-century London as the savage, maniacal Edward Hyde. Avalon Theatre Company invites you to join Dorothy and her friends in this stage version of the well-known story. Is a witty cynical comic revue with well known – and not so well known songs – and brand new sketches. Sophisticated attractive ladies take to the stage and entertain the audience, tongues in cheeks, the occasional witch’s hat and the odd feather boa! From rich bitches in sequin dresses to haggard witches in ragged stitches! It tells the story of a group of impoverished young artists struggling to survive and create a life in New York City’s East Village under the shadow of HIV/AIDS. Expect an evening of adult themes – including alcohol, drugs, and scenes of a sexual nature – alongside a fierce soundtrack of much-loved musical numbers including La Vie Bohème, Santa Fe, Rent, Take Me or Leave Me and, of course, Seasons of Love. This is theatre at its best – exuberant, passionate, and joyous. Over the last 23 years Croft has raised over £21,000 for the Diamond Riding Centre for Disabled Riders and currently sponsor Seth, a Camargue horse who travelled to England in October 2012 with the Caravan of Hope. 7.30pm Age Range: 4+ £10 (£8 concessions) Thursday 9 – Saturday 11 July The Breakfast Cat Theatre Company presents THE THREEPENNY OPERA Bob Drury (‘The Neil Diamond Story’) returns with a brand new oneman show celebrating the genius of singer/ songwriter Neil Diamond. In the first half many of his finely crafted songs are presented in strippeddown ‘unplugged’ style revealing the sheer quality of Neil Diamond’s music and lyrics. The second half of the show picks up the pace and promises a barrage of block-buster hits that span the decades! Evenings 7.30pm Age Range: 12+ by BERTOLT BRECHT Based on the 18th century Ballad Opera The Beggars Opera, Bertolt Brecht and Kurt Weill’s The Threepenny Opera is a play with musical elements that has been translated into 18 languages and performed over 10,000 times on the European Stage. It follows Mac the Knife, a violent, anti-heroic, criminal and the attempts of gangster, Mr Peachum to have Mac hung after discovering he has secretly married his daughter, Polly. Enjoy a rare local performance of a play by one of the all time master playwrights. It is an ideal space for parties, meetings and weddings with a maximum capacity of 120.
