Arbor for the next in our continuing chamber recital series. This hour-long chamber concert
features works by Mozart and Schumann played by Arie Lipsky our Music Director and
Conductor, Aaron Berofsky, Concert Master, Kathryn Votapek, A2SO Associate Concert Master
and Kathryn’s father Ralph Votapek, Piano Professor of Piano at Michigan State University.

Cellist, Music Director and Conductor, Arie Lipsky served as Assistant Conductor of the
Cleveland Institute of Music and the Ohio Opera. He moved to Buffalo in 1984 to become the
Buffalo Philharmonic’s principal cellist and in 1990, he became the Resident Conductor. In
early 1995, on short notice, Arie replaced the late Eduardo Mata conducting the Israel Chamber
Orchestra, where his success resulted in return engagements with many of Israel’s
orchestras. Lipsky also conducted the Arthur Rubinstein Orchestra in Lódź, Poland. Lipsky is
the Music Director of the Ashland Symphony (Ohio), Principal Guest Conductor of Haifa
Symphony Orchestra, and also conducts major orchestras in the United States, Canada and
Europe. He teaches Chamber Music during the summer at the Chautauqua Institution.
Violinist Aaron Berofsky has performed with orchestras in the United States, Germany, Italy,
Spain and Canada. He has performed the complete cycle of Mozart violin sonatas at the
International Festival Deia in Spain and has appeared in such renowned venues as Carnegie
Hall, Alice Tully Hall, the 92nd Street Y, the Corocoran Gallery, Het Doelen, L'Octogone, the
Teatro San Jose and the Museo de Bellas Artes. Mr. Berofsky has been featured on NPR's
Performance Today and on the Canadian Broadcasting Company. Recent recital tours have
taken him to Germany and Italy, and he was featured soloist on the 2009 NAXOS recording of
music by Paul Fetler, performed by the Ann Arbor Symphony, including the debut recording of
Fettler’s Concerto No. 2. An alumnus of the Juilliard School, Mr. Berofsky was a scholarship
student of Dorothy DeLay.
Violinist, Kathryn Votapek has been Guest Lecturer of Violin and Viola at the University of
Michigan and has served on the faculty of the Meadowmount School of Music, the Interlochen
Arts Camp, the Las Vegas Music Festival, the Madeline Island Music Camp, the Quartet
Program, the Banff International Festival, and the Adriatic Chamber Music Festival (Italy), as
well as performing at the Speedside Festival (Canada), the Klosterkamp Kammermusikfest
(Germany), the International Deia Festival (Spain), the Garth Newel Festival, the Fontana
Festival, and with the Chicago Chamber Musicians. Ms. Votapek received her Bachelor of Music
degree at Indiana University and Masters degree from the Juilliard School. Her teachers were
Robert Mann, Franco Gulli, and Angel Reyes.
Pianist, Ralph Votapek’s has made hundreds of appearances with major American orchestras.
Featured no less than16 times as the Chicago Symphony’s guest soloist, Votapek has frequently
played with the Boston Pops, also concertizing with the Philadelphia Orchestra, the New York
Philharmonic, the Los Angeles Philharmonic, and elsewhere. Mr. Votapek began his musical
education at age nine, when he enrolled in the Wisconsin Conservatory. Continuing his studies

at Northwestern University, he subsequently attended the Manhattan School of Music and The
Juilliard School, where his principal teachers were Rosina Lhevinne and Robert Goldsand.
He has served as Artist-in-Residence at Michigan State University where he is currently
Professor Emeritus of Piano at the College of Music.

The A2SO Chamber Recital Series features the finest chamber recital music played by A2SO
musicians and guests. These hour-long concerts are open to listeners of all ages. Wind, string
and brass soloists and ensembles combine programs to include freshly minted pieces along with
