APRIL 18 DAY OF ACTION: FINANCE MINISTER’S MEETING
AS THE WORLD’S FINANCE MINISTERS GATHER IN WASHINGTON DC ON APRIL 18 FOR THE SPRING MEETING OF
THE WORLD BANK, ACTION/2015 MEMBERS AROUND THE WORLD ARE INVITED TO UNITE IN A GLOBAL CALL FOR
PRIORITIZING THE FUNDING REQUIRED TO TACKLE EXTREME POVERTY, INEQUALITY AND CLIMATE CHANGE.
This will be the first global moment in the months leading up to
Addis where action/2015 members all around the world will be
campaigning for the financing of the goals.

Change and End Extreme Poverty
On this day a major event will be held in Washington DC,
Global Citizen 2015 Earth Day.
Earth Day Network and The Global Poverty Project have joined forces
to further the movement to end extreme poverty and solve climate
change through Global Citizen 2015 Earth Day, a free event on the
National Mall in Washington, D.C. on Saturday, April 18, 2015.
CALL TO ACTION
Global citizens around the world will be calling upon their
Finance Ministers and heads of state from April 13-18 to:
1. Turn up in Addis
2. Prioritize funding for the Sustainable Development Goals
and climate change agreements
April is the only time before the Financing for Development
conference in Addis when the leaders who control the world’s
financial resources will be all be together in the same place.
This is the moment for every one of us to call for serious
investment to end extreme poverty and tackling climate change.
Global Citizen 2015 Earth Day will be calling on
finance ministers to commit to:
1. Ensuring aid goes to the poorest people in poor countries
2. Securing billions annually to fully fund health, nutrition, education,
water and sanitation for all
3. Unlocking additional resources beyond aid for the purpose of
sustainable development, including curbing climate change
4. Stopping tax dodging and curbing illicit financial flows

Marking the 45th anniversary of Earth Day, Global Citizen 2015 Earth
Day comes during a pivotal time to protect the planet and ensure that
world leaders address key issues facing the next generation. Timed to
coincide with the spring meetings of the World Bank —Global Citizen
2015 Earth Day will bring together global policymakers, finance
ministers, environment and development NGOs, industry executives
and high-profile artists as they make tangible commitments towards
ending extreme poverty and tackling climate change.
ACTION/2015 MEMBER ACTIVITIES
action/2015 members around the world will be calling on their
finance ministers to take action on extreme poverty and climate
change on April 18 and the week leading up to this meeting.
Here are some suggested actions you could take to join with
other action/2015 members:
1. Social Media
A social media pack for action/2015 members with key messages and
images will be created and distributed to all action/2015
members by April 10 to use and customize.
The key messages for social media campaign will
be to call on finance ministers to be ‘Heroes’ in 2015.
This campaign will feature customized images of each
Finance Minister in the style of a “Hero?” card. This
messaging and imagery will follow-on from the UN
Ambassador campaign that was run in 2014 as a
HERO?
teaser for action/2015, calling on Ambassadors to develop ambitious
goals and challenging them to be ‘Heroes’.

finance minister to join this global action, please contact

2. Attend or Watch Global Citizen 2015 Earth Day
For those in Washington DC, join Global Citizen 2015 Earth Day
on the Washington National Mall from 11am – 7pm EST. If you’re
not in Washington DC, tune into the live stream on YouTube, or
host your own event.
3. Blog or write a letter to your local/national paper
Write a blog or a letter to your local/national paper focusing on the
key issues being focused on for the day.
Some suggestions include:
• Everyday ‘heroes’ who have used finance for good
• The importance of poverty and climate both being
addressed together in 2015
• What you are calling on your finance minister to commit to
4. Support the App
An app is being released on April 18 that will be promoted from the
stage at Global Citizen 2015 Earth Day. This will be a global united
call for finance ministers to commit to the four overarching financing
commitments outlined on page 1. If you would like to support this
global call to action, you are very welcome to. Details for the app
release will be provided in the social media pack to be distributed to
action/2015 members by April 10.
5. Meet with your Finance Minister
Following this kick-off campaign for financing the goals action/2015
members will be calling on citizens to meet with their finance
ministers and heads of state to discuss financing the goals. At the
World Bank Spring meetings and through this campaign we will
put these leaders on standby to expect to hear from citizens, then
citizens will be meeting with their finance ministers and heads of
state in the lead up to Addis to prioritize funding.
