STATE FFA CAREER DEVELOPMENT EVENTS Hosted by the Dale Bumpers College of Agricultural, Food and Life Sciences University of Arkansas Thursday, April 16 and Friday, April 17, 2015 ATTENTION! Headquarters (and bus parking) for this year's CDEs will be at the Pauline Whitaker Animal Science Arena. Please read the information below carefully to avoid confusion regarding parking and location of events. All eligible FFA members for the State FFA Career Development Events (CDEs) should meet at the designated place listed below for registration and instructions for the event. (A map of campus is available at http://campusmaps.uark.edu/ on the University of Arkansas Web site.) It is recommended that all teams be at the designated location 30 minutes before the beginning time of the event. NOTE: Five events (Agronomy, Farm Business Management, Floriculture, Nursery/Landscape, and Vet Science) will be held at the Washington County Fairgrounds in Thompson Hall, the Commercial Building, and the Horticulture Building. Buses for Land, Forestry and Meats will load at the Fairgrounds. All CDEs will begin at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday (EXCEPTION: Vet Science 12:00 PM start time) and 8:00 a.m. on Friday- No team will be permitted to enter an event after it has begun. An advisers’ meeting will begin at 9 a.m. on Friday in the Pauline Whitaker Animal Science Arena. Scan sheets will be available for pickup on Thursday morning/afternoon/evening, April 16, from 9a.m. to 7 p.m. at the Abernathy Agriscience & Technology Center located north of the main campus on the University of Arkansas farm at 1194 Cassatt, on the east side of Highway 112 (Garland St.). Traveling from campus, Cassatt is the first right-turn to the north of Agri. Park, or, traveling from I-49, it is the first left turn south of the stoplight at Drake St. IF YOU CANNOT PICK UP SCAN SHEETS DURING THIS TIME, SCAN SHEETS WILL BE AVAILABLE FOR PICK UP AT THE WHITAKER ARENA BETWEEN 7:15AM AND 7:45AM ON FRIDAY MORNING. PARKING: All vehicles associated with the State CDE should be parked in the parking lots around the Pauline Whitaker Animal Science Arena, Washington County Fairgrounds or on the side roads surrounding Agri Park, which is directly across Highway 112 from the Animal Science Arena. Please do not park on the grass at Agri Park. THURSDAY EVENTS START TIME: 2pm (EXCEPTION: Vet Science at 12pm) CDE LOCATION Agricultural Communications: HOEC building room 102, 987 W. Maple St. Bring #2 pencils. The elimination round will include the editing quiz and AP STYLE Quiz. We will start at 2pm in HOEC 102. The top 13 teams will qualify for the final round (practicum). Non-qualifiers will be released from HOEC 102 at 3:15. Qualifiers will move to AFLS B108 and will be released around 4:30 pm. Agricultural Mechanics: Abernathy Agriscience & Technology Center. Each TEAM should bring: One pair of welding gloves One pair oxy-acetylene goggles Each STUDENT should bring: Safety glasses or goggles #2 Pencils Non-programmable calculator (Note: Cell phones MAY NOT BE USED during any portion of the contest - this includes use as a calculator.) North of campus off Garland St. First right turn, north of Agri Park (Cassatt St.); first building on left. Farm Business Management: Washington County Fairgrounds (Commercial Building). See Agronomy for directions. Bring #2 pencil. Calculators will be provided (Students will not be allowed to use their personal calculators - No clipboard needed) Floriculture: Washington County Fairgrounds. Bring clipboard. See Agronomy for directions. Forestry: Meet at Fairgrounds. Buses depart at 2 pm. See Agronomy for directions. Land Judging: Meet at Fairgrounds Transportation will be provided to site. Busses will leave at 2pm. Livestock Judging: Pauline Whitaker Arena. Vet Science: Washington County Fairgrounds. Start time 12 pm. Please refer to information from Chris Bacchus for elimination round criteria. FRIDAY EVENTS: START 8 am CDE LOCATION Agronomy: Washington County Fairgrounds. Bring Clipboard. North of campus off Garland St. Turn left off Garland on Drake St. (at stoplight) then follow to Washington County Fairgrounds entrance. Milk Quality & Products: Food Science Building. The building is located north of campus off Garland St. First right turn after Agri Park (Cassatt St.). Follow Cassatt, road turns to left, Food Science Building will be on the right. Electricity: Abernathy Lab. Bring wiring board w/materials, goggles, clipboard and toolbox. Food Science: Food Science Building. See Dairy Foods for directions. Bring calculator. Horse Judging: Pauline Whitaker Animal Science Arena. North of campus on the west side of Garland St at Knapp Rd. Meats: Meet at Washington County Fairgrounds. Springdale High Schools busses will depart for Tyson Discovery Center at 7:30am. Nursery/Landscape: Washington County Fairgrounds. Bring clipboard, ruler (Architect's scale), and calculator. See Agronomy for directions. Poultry Judging: Poultry Farm. West of Pauline Whitaker Animal Science Arena. Processing plant behind the feed mill. Clipboards with rulers cannot be used, and will be taken from contestants; non-programmable calculator will be required for exam. GENERAL EVENT INFORMATION Students MUST BRING: Correct Scan sheet A standard size clipboard (EXCEPT for Farm Business Management) A manila folder (to protect scan sheet) #2 pencils Before arrival at the contest site, contestants should fill in: Contestant number under "Code" Last name and first name. DISQUALIFICATION: (1) Teachers at the contest sites; (2) Any talking among team members; (3) Any form of cheating. (4) Cellular telephones visible or in use during the event. THESE WILL BE ENFORCED! Other Activities: Friday 8:30-9:30 a.m. Refreshments for teachers in the Pauline Whitaker Animal Science Arena classroom. Friday 9:00 a.m. Teacher’s meeting, Pauline Whitaker Animal Science Arena Classroom. Friday 11:00-1:00 Lunch, Agri Park (Provided by Bumpers College & McKee Foods!) SCORE POSTING CHANGE THIS YEAR This year for the State CDE Contests we will post all results to the www.judgingcard.com<http://www.judgingcard.com> system as soon as the scantrons have been run for each respective contest. After logging in to their account, Advisors will be able to log in to the system and check for any errors/concerns at any location (Please DO NOT share log-in information with students to avoid disappointment if scores are changed). Once all scores are official, the log-in requirement will be released so students can view results as well. Results will not be official until 4:00 p.m. (or 1 hour after the results are posted if contest runs longer than 3:00) at which time we will have an awards presentation at the Pauline Whitaker Building for winning teams.
