GRAND EXALTED RULER CHALLENGE
ARE YOU UP TO IT?
The Grand Exalted Ruler, Ronald L. Hicks, noted the following challenge
in the Grand Lodge Newsletter for January 2016:
“January and the New Year bring hope for the renewal of all that is good
in our lives. It is time to make a resolution to set and pursue new goals,
be stronger, do better and achieve more, and to inspire others.
This New Year, why not resolve to become more active in your Lodge
and increase your efforts on behalf of the Lodge and Elkdom? Why
not resolve to bring in at least one new member before the end of
the Lodge year? Elks make a tremendous difference in the lives of
our Members and the people we serve, and you can be a part of that
difference by sharing the pride that comes with active membership and
volunteer service.”

TRUSTEE CORNER
The Maumee- BG Elks’ publication called “Elk Reflections” contained a very timely article that we want to share here.
The first principle in the service of alcohol is to never serve anyone approaching intoxication. It is the Lodge’s duty to accomplish
this by controlling all aspects of service and being observant while serving alcohol: stop service to anyone approaching intoxication;
don’t let others buy drinks for anyone who might be approaching intoxication; and stop service to anyone else in the group if it
is believed they will pass drinks on to offending individuals.
Never allow patrons to serve themselves (for example, no beer kegs). Everyone from Lodge management to the employees/
volunteers must know their position depends on their ability to strictly enforce this policy.
The service of alcohol must not be viewed as a means of finance for the Lodge; it must be viewed as a privilege the Lodge
extends to members and their guests – a privilege that has strict guidelines. This is not a commercial bar/restaurant situation;
this is an accommodation for the membership that must include inflexible rules. Cutting off an individual who is approaching
intoxication or not serving them in the first place is better than generating a million-dollar claim.

THANK YOU PER ASSOCIATION
During the last two months Lima Lodge has been selling Ohio Elks
Association Ohio Buckeye Bucks calendars. Sales from these Calendars
help the Ohio Elks Association support our major state charity, Cerebral
Palsy. Lima Lodge receives $5.00 from the sale of each calendar. These
funds are ear marked to go to the Lodge PER Association. This year
the PER Association contributed the proceeds received from these
sales to the Lodge Building Fund. THANK YOU PER Association for your
contribution to the Lodge Building Fund and for helping to maintain our
Lodge building.
