Dear Children,
Summer Vacations are synonymous with fun, frolic, getting up
late in the morning, playing for longer hours with friends, going for picnic,
exploring new places and watching fun filled shows on television. But dear
children, there is a lot more you can do to make your vacations more
interesting, meaning full and full of fun, along with doing all your heart
desires. Here is a summer vacation activity treasure just for you. Summer
homework has been designed theme based, rich in inter- disciplinary
connections. The theme for the class is FOOD.
FEW GUIDELINES FOR YOUR PARENTS TO MAKE YOUR SUMMER BREAK
FRUITFUL
 “Victory is for those whose language is knowledge “. Therefore
encourage your child to cultivate the reading habit because it not only
enhances the knowledge acquired but also develops the vocabulary,
language skills and improves spellings. And also read to your child
because reading skills and increases his/her attention span.
 “All work and no play make Jack a dull boy”. Encourage your child to
go out and play because sports instill discipline, generate sporting
spirits, channelize energies constructively.
 Communication skills play a pivotal role in grooming the overall
personality of the children. Converse with your child preferably in
English to help him/ her get comfortable with the language.
 Spend quality time with your child engaging him/her in activities based
on enhancing his/her powers of observations and imaginations.
 Help your child to become independent by giving them
responsibilities. Involve them in small household activities.
 Encourage your child to do the activities himself/herself and appoint a
specific time to do homework every day.
Fruits and vegetables taste great. They are also packed with vitamins and
minerals and fibers to help you stay fit and healthy. Everybody should
eat fruits and veggies every day. How much you need depends upon your
age. So check out the chart below and find out how much you should be
eating.
Of course you can always eat more if you want.

How much is a serve?
One serve of fruit is equal to 1 medium piece of fruit, 2 smaller pieces of
fruit or 1 cup of chopped fruit.
One serve of vegetable is equal to ½ cup / bowl of cooked veggies, one
medium potato or one cup / bowl of salad veggies.
Tips to help you eat more fruits and veggies.
To help you eat enough fruits and veggies, try to include same in every
meal and choose fruits and veggies if you have snack. Different colour
fruits and veggies have different health benefits, so try to make sure you
have many different colours as you can. Fruits and vegetables can be
served now. Steamed, boiled, baked, grated or diced. You can also eat
them with other ingredients such as meat, fish, eggs, rice, noodles, pulao
or pasta.
Eating fresh fruits is much better for you than drinking fruit juice, which
has very little fiber. Water is best drink to quench your thirst.
ACTIVITY -1
DESIGN YOUR OWN COCONUT TREE
INSTRUCTIONS: Using banana, kiwi and orange fruits
design your own coconut tree with your creativity. Once
it’s ready click a photograph and paste that in the space
given below to be shared with your classmates after the
vacations. Banana can be used as stem and kiwi slices as
leaves(you canuse any other fruit)
 TABLE MAT-Along with eating healthy, our eating habits should be well
mannered and hygienic. Hence, spreading a Table mat is a must. Make your own
table mat which you can use in the class during lunch time. Make 2 different
patterns using vegetable printing. Take a cut lady’s finger, lemon or bitter gourd
and dip it in water colour. Use it to make pretty patterns on coloured A-3 sheets
and get it laminated.

FLASH CARD MAKING ACTIVITY - Make two magnetic flash cards (size 1/4th of an A4
pastel sheet) each on the topics given roll number wise. You may collect pictures from
old magazines/ newspapers and may even draw pictures and color ( with the help of
clay stick the magnet to the cardboard base given to the flash card)
