CANCELLATIONS AND REFUNDS
Fees will only be refunded in exceptional circumstances and all refunds will
be subject to a £20 administration charge. Without exception, the cost of any
accommodation and meals booked will be retained according to the following
schedule: 4-6 weeks before the course begins: 25% accommodation retained;
1-4 weeks before the course begins: 50% accommodation retained; less than
7 days before the course begins: 100% accommodation & catering retained. If
you prefer to take up the option of a transfer or credit note, the accommodation
and catering policy above will be applied but no administrative charge will be
made. Refund requests should be made, in writing, to the Manager of Public
Programmes, OUDCE, 1 Wellington Square, Oxford, OX1 2JA, or by emailing
[email protected]. Please indicate in your application which
option you would prefer. The Department reserves the right to cancel courses
with insufficient enrolments and the decision to do so is usually made 2 weeks
before a course is scheduled to run. In such cases students are refunded in full.

The Bayeux Tapestry and
the Norman Conquest:
A Commemoration of 1066
A weekend event to be held at Rewley
House, 1 Wellington Square, Oxford
2016 is the 950th anniversary of the momentous year 1066,
which climaxed with the Battle of Hastings and the Norman
Conquest of England. The Bayeux Tapestry commemorated
the lead-up to the Conquest and we commemorate, in
this conference, both historical events and the work of art.
We compare the Bayeux Tapestry’s version of history with
other sources and examine the cultural environment that
produced and appreciated it. We consider the ways in which
the Bayeux Tapestry is unique among medieval textile
furnishings; and we examine how the Bayeux Tapestry
itself has been and still is being commemorated, from the
nineteenth-century replica displayed in Reading to recent and
current community projects that portray history in needlework.
