Jody Karantonis, who is a retired art teacher, held a painting workshop at the Veronica
‘Roni’ Chenowith Activity Center in Fallston this April. Most of her students were new
to oil painting and enjoyed learning to paint with water mixable oil paints and most finished their paintings at the end of the workshop.
Loretta DiLoreto and Patricia Stonesifer judged the
Ninth Children’s Art Exhibit at the Joppatowne Library
on Sat, Mar 21. Loretta was the founder of this show
when she was affiliated with the Joppatowne Women’s
Club. The show features original art from grades K thru
5. Each child receives a Certificate of Participation and
ribbons are awarded to 1st, 2nd, 3rd and Best of Show.
This year the Best of Show was won by a kindergartner.
In the photo, Loretta is standing beside the art of the
Best of Show winner.

HAA Scholarship
As a representative of the HAA and as a representative
of all scholarship donors, Pam Burton was a presenter
at this year’s Harford Community College Scholarship
reception with approximately 300 in attendance. Pam
noted that it was heart-warming to HAA members to
have the ability to help an emerging young artist through
a scholarship donation and that it also provided the HAA
another avenue to educate the public on the important
contribution the arts make to society. She went on to
say how impressed the HAA has been with the recipients that have presented at our business meetings. Pam
expressed the belief that even though a scholarship helps
relieve some of the financial burden of education, it
also serves to build confidence and encourage personal
growth. She further explained that a scholarship, regardless of whether it is in the arts or the sciences, is an investment in the future of these bright young people, which in
turn, is an investment in our own future. She noted that
based on interactions with the recipients she has met,
that future looks promising. Pam went on to congratulate all scholarship winners and thank all fellow donors
for taking the initiative to invest in these very deserving
students.

From the Gallery
From Your Gallery Assistant - Nancy Lloyd:
It is time to start planning for our next show at the Gallery.
Changeover will be on Mon, Apr 27 from 3 to 6 p.m. for the
“Rural to Urban” show, which begins May 1 and continues
to June 28. As always, work entered in the show does not
necessarily have to reflect the theme. The reception will be
on Sat, May 9, from 1 to 4 p.m. Hope to see you there!
I want to take this opportunity to express my gratitude to
our loyal members who generously take time to sit at the
Gallery even when they do not have any art work on display.
We hear so many complaints about the burden of having
to “gallery-sit” that we may not notice these unsung heroes
among us. So let’s hear it for Kathy Scott, Amanda Recher,
Renee Henderson, Jo Ann Barker, Mindi Scott, and Jill
Plaisted! There are probably a few others whom I have failed
to mention, but please be assured, the gallery committee is
eternally grateful to all of you. Thank you for your service.
Pictures at an Exhibition - Sep 4 thru Oct 25
Our annual juried art show, “Pictures at an Exhibition”
will be here before we know it. See attached information
and instructions about submission of photos for your artwork. Don’t forget to come to our Digital Training session
on May 17 to help you prepare to take the very best pictures you can with your digital camera. The R.S.V.P. date
for the Digital Training session is April 25.
March 2015 Gallery Sales:

you. Log on to the site to nominate yourself and participate by making comments and selecting your own exhibit
of favorite works by other nominees. Renee Henderson nominated herself and has received requests for her
artwork from Baltimore-area galleries. See her page at:
