Girls’ Sports Results 23rd May: NETBALL W FIRSTS L X ACK SCORE OPPONENT OPPONENT’S SCORE D 68 MENT 43 Assumption played a very smart game against Mentone - the match was highlighted by slick passages of play, strong drives from our defence and centre court players as well as defensive pressure that built as the game went on. At each quarter break Assumption were able to build the lead which is an area we have wanted to improve upon. Claudia Cook and Gemma Whitty made second appearances for the firsts and did a great job. Our young defensive players including Jessica Hinrichsen turned the ball over and made Mentone work for each goal. Changes made at half time saw the intensity step up and Assumption exert a dominance when attacking from both centre passes and long court. Again changes were made at three quarter time that were a bit out of the box however Assumptions style of controlled speed came to the front and they took the win in a disciplined manner. Best players were Kara Tessari and Rosie O’Sullivan. We were again down on player numbers and like to thank Bridie Minogue who step up to help us out for the game and Hailey Wynd play her first game for the ACK 1st Basketball team. We started slow and IGS got the jump on us, we changed up our defence and stop IGS scoring easily. We are working on our offence and each week we are understanding our plays and improving each round. When we played our offence and were able to beat IGS back half press we looked good and show signs of potential. Eleanor Cornish was again one of our best and consistent players, with help from Hailey Wynd and Macy Byrnes.
