The Vedas have continued to function on a path parallel to socioreligious development to bring the
society the knowledge of dealing with nature and the human being. Their champions have not been
prophets, but men of science of self-realization.
In fact, the Vedas are composed purely of scientific knowledge.
If understood properly, you will see that they talk about

How the universe has come into existence
How the system of the universe works
What are the laws of Nature
What are the various centres / principles of energy in that universe i.e. the 'Gods'
How are these Gods involved in the working of this entire system
The Vedas see several universes in existence. In the Purusha Suktam, these are outlined, and their
inter-relationships explained. The term used for all these 'entities' (several universes) is Purusha. This
word is made up of two root words. Puru - the whole world, the people, the town, or anything whole
in itself. Ishaha - The Lord of all people. The word Purusha therefore means - the Lord or controller of
All That Is. This Purusha exists at several levels. Each level is a fractal of the Original or Supreme
Concept. The Supreme Concept is the Parama Purusha, who is beyond. The Viraat Purusha (also
called Vishwa Purusha) refers to the entire observable universe (brahmaand). It is an expression of
the Parama Purusha. The human body is yet another brahmaand or Purusha, called Pinda Purusha.
The Pinda Purusha is the human being and its expansion is the body that has its own set of Gods, etc.
It is important to learn to differentiate which of these Purusha the various mantras speak about at
which time and in what context.
