enincasa, a two-bed home for the
terminally ill, is an outreach
ministry of St. Catherine of Siena
Church in Mendon, in cooperation
with Mendon Presbyterian Church and St.
Mark Lutheran Church. The home is a place to
live life’s final days with dignity, comfort and
self worth.
Benincasa’s doors opened on October 23,
1996, and since then it has provided
bereavement counseling and community
outreach services to over 1500 people in the
greater Rochester area and beyond. Men and
women with varied illnesses from many
denominations and inter-religious faiths have
been cared for. During this time the resident’s
family members and friends also receive
support, counseling and overnight hospitality.
Residents must be determined to be within the
last three months of life, and the staff must be
capable of meeting their specific needs.
Professionals have been recruited to coordinate
the many volunteers needed to operate
Benincasa.
Benincasa is a non-profit home with no means
of income. Sources of support for this project
depend solely on donations, grants and
fundraising activities. Therefore any donation
of money, volunteer time or support services is
welcome and much appreciated.
