A super show of handy horses demonstrated their abilities in the annual “Best
of the Remuda” ranch horse competition held
Friday afternoon where Hip 79 “Haidas Cat
Ichi” a 2006 AQHA Sorrel Gelding sired by
Cat Ichi and out of a daughter of Haidas
Little Pep took home Championship Honors.
The top two selling horses of day both shown in the ranch horse division and
both carrying proven arena credentials brought $20,500 and $19,500 respectively,
the top five selling horses, all geldings, averaged $17,140.
Spring in Big Sky Country saw 630
horses came to town for the Memorial Day
weekend sale with 94% completed sales, 313
catalog horses, 302 on the loose, and 15 offered on the open consignment.

Olena was offered by Turner Performance
Horses, LLC, East Helena, MT.
The professional heel horse and
stand out ranch gelding knew his job, did it
well, brought $20,500 and sold to Shane and
Jaimie Johnson, New Town, ND.
Runnerup sale honors went to Hip
144 “SNW Heavenly Jaz” a 2002 AQHA Red
Roan Gelding x Ima Bit Of Heaven consigned
by Jessica Krueger, Kalispell, MT.
A 1D barrel horse, the strawberry
roan was also shown in the competition and
the handsome, multi disciplined gelding
brought $19,500.
A standout individual, owned since a
weanling by the consignor, Hip 93 “Wrangler 499” a 2006 AQHA Buckskin Gelding
sired by Milky Way 499 and out of a Two
Eyed Fox/Doc’s Lynx bred dam was owned
and shown by Dan Levine, Wolf Creek, MT.
Used on the ranch, started in the
arena, packed, too, the fancy, tailor-made
gelding was purchased by Arnie Guimont,
Mandaree, ND for $14,000.
Solid, honest, and offered by the
ranch who raised him, Hip 58 “Western
Quincy Jo” a 2007 AQHA Bay Roan Gelding
by Jo High Jinks offered by Bill Harris,
Mosby, MT had been used in the Missouri
Breaks an a working cow ranch.
Roped on a lot outside, the easy
traveling gelding brought $8,000 and sold
to Cody Shaw, Buffalo, WY.
An amped up loose trade kicked off
the day where 28 horses brought a $1,000
bill or better and the top five sold for
$3,600, $2,800, $2,350, $2,200, and $2,100.
The strong, strong loose trade lead
by the prospects produced high sale averages including the top five at $2,610; top
ten at $2,275; Top 20 at $1,906; top 50
averaged $1,555; and top 100 - that’s onethird of the loose session - averaged $604
a head.
Catalog sale averages also reflect
an improved market where the top ten averaged $14,095; top 20 at $11,145; top 50
brought $7,534 and the top 100 averaged
$5,212.
Billings Livestock’s “Summer Special Catalog Sale” is next on the agenda set
for June 27. Loose horses will sell at 8
a.m. with catalog sale time 12 Noon.

tying horse. He's been being used at World Series & Wrangler Ropings. Great for lower number ropings with big, roped out cattle. He's
good in the box, rates cattle and gives you the
same throw every trip. He is a power house on
the end of the rope. Your heelers will love him
as he can keep any steer out in front of them.
We have been roping on him without a
breastcollar. 3Z is also a solid goat tying horse.

DAWSON – 2007 GRADE Red Dun Gelding.
Dawson is a beautiful red dun gelding, 14.3
hands tall with a nice build. This good looking
gelding has been in parades, and shown in all
events in open shows. This is good all-around
eventing horse. This has been my go to horse.
Leave him sit, saddle him up and go from the
coldest of winter to the hottest of summer, he
always stays the same. We’ve done cow events
on him in the USWRCA. I used him on the buffalo round-up on Antelope Island. Ponied yearlings with him, used to help gather cattle off
summer range. He has seen many miles, young
enough to go many more. Would make a good
horse to go in any direction you want to take
him, has a real nice neck rein, moves off leg
pressure.

MISTY – 2005 GRADE Fjord Pony Buckskin
Mare. Misty is a Fjord/pony cross She is broke
to ride and pack, she is small enough for kids yet
big enough for an adult, She is a fun little horse
to ride, been on many trail rides, Been ridden up
and down roads with traffic. She is an all-around

BRIDGET – 2011 GRADE Black Morgan/Quarter Cross Mare. Bridget is a good looking black
as the ace of spades mare. She has lots of go
with a big motor to get you were you want to go.
She can turn on a dime. Has been patterned on
barrels and poles. Would make a great open show
or 4h horse for the teenager looking for something with go. Been ridden down the roads in the

is cow savy. A nice headset, great attitude,

on the barrels, just needs to be hauled and finished. Have won money on her at the Three Can
Tango and smaller jackpots. I bought her to finish for college, but am currently living in Hawaii. Also has been heeled off of some in the
past. Rides English as well, and started jumping.
Doesn't buck, but has plenty of gas and not for

great. She was in the NILE Parade with Norine Linderman. Only reason she is in sale is
that Taylor has lost interest in horses so I need to downsize. Auddie is using her as his

PISTOL – 2005 GRADE Sorrel Pony Gelding.
Pistol is a 10 yr old quarter pony that is as cute
as a bugs ear and made like a big horse. He stands
about 13 hands, he has a very classy head and a
nice long mane and tail. Our daughter used this
horse this spring gathering cattle in the hills in
big pastures at the Powderhorn Ranch in WY.
She rode out with us and worked side by side
with us all day, she would go off and get stragglers and bring them back to the herd on her
own. We got them run up in the sorting corrals
and Lana pushed and worked cattle right up until
the job was done. We worked in the sunshine
and the next day we worked in a snow storm. The
little horse was a top hand all day every day. He
rode great out in the big country going up and
down the hills, navigating through the gullies,
washouts and ravines. He would march through
every puddle, creek and pond like it wasn't there.
If a horse wandered off when someone was
working on the ground, Lana would ride up on
pistol and gather the horse and pony it back with
her, that happened several times, I was starting
to think she was chasing the horses off just so
she could go and gather them. This little guy has
as good of a neck rein as any big horse and will
walk, trot and lope nice and collected and smooth.
He is a genuinely nice little horse that should

gentle and wants to be your friend. Easy to catch

packing into hunting camp since 2007. She has

Top Deck. Texas has been patterned to the
barrels and is really starting to come on
strong. She is awesome on the trails and loves
a job. She crosses water, dead fall and has
managed some pretty wide rivers. she has
also dabbled in the heading side of roping.
She is big and strong at 15.2 with good feet

is patterned very well on the barrels and
poles. She has amazing reach with her hind
quarters and can change her leads effortlessly at the exact place in both patterns.
She requires a soft hand and soft touch. Sis
has so much natural forward motion, and
energy to spare, but at the same time very
patient while tied and being groomed and
saddled. Easy to shoe, load and she clips and
accepts baths. This little mare has been roped
off of and loves to chase cows. She has a
powerful stop and would make an amazing
heeling horse or possible break-away horse.
She is not afraid to cross water and get in
the brush. Quick and agile she really gets
the country covered out in the brush and in

WholeLottaStirrin. I raised Pacer, I own his
sire and dam which we barrel raced and roped
off both of them. Pacer's dam, Red Reflections
has her ROM with a SI 103. She was the MQHA
mare of the year in 2003. Pacer's sire, Flash
Policy is AAAT, SI 106 and has two track records
at two different distances. Pacer is a very well
trained 15.2, 6 year old gentle gelding that anybody should be able to get along with. I train all
my horses with a reining background. Pacer has
done lots of ranch work he knows what a days
work is. Pacer has been entered in three barrel
races and numerous time only. His first race he
ran the top of the 2D and handled everything

some his 3 and 4 year old years and been
used to gather cattle, trail ride since. He
is a kind hearted, pleasant natured horse.
Stands 15.1 hands, lots of shape and good
footed. He has the smoothest trot, easy
going short lope, neck reins, pivots,
sidepasses and has a big stop. Has some
run if asked so would make a nice rope
