Breakout Session 1
Revisiting the 007 (Cataloging) — 1 TLEU
Sandra Osborn (MVPL)
As we’ve discovered since the 2.7 upgrade, the 007 and fixed fields play an increasingly
important role in the patron catalog experience.. Please join us and discover how to properly code the 007 and fixed fields that select the icons and form search filters in the catalog.
Better Book Clubs (Circulation) — 1 LEU
Brandy Graves (SHCPL) / Jennifer McKinley (MCPL)
Last fall we spent a lot of time discussing how Evergreen Indiana libraries have facilitated
book clubs in the past. This session will focus on how you can use the new procedures to
improve your book club planning experience and highlight things you can do to drive up
attendance at your library’s book clubs.
Breakout Session 2
Cataloging eContent and the 856 (Cataloging) — 1 TLEU
Shelley Lesandrini (WWPL) / Matthew Stevenson (PFLD)
Library collections are shifting to incorporate more and more econtent. How do you catalog econtent in Evergreen and what should you do to integrate an access point for your
patrons? This session will also include a brief discussion on bringing OverDrive records
into the Evergreen client.
Lost & Damaged (Patron Services) — 1 LEU
Laura Hull (PBPL) / Portia Kapraun
In a public library, your materials can be expected to take quite a beating. This session will
talk about how to handle communications and processing materials that are lost or damaged.
Breakout Session 3
Monographic Parts (Cataloging/Circulation) — 1 TLEU
Monica Boyer (JCPL) / Christina Hime (JCPL)
This crossover session, featuring representatives from both the Cataloging and Patron Services Committees, will look at one of the newer features in Evergreen. Monographic parts
allow better focused patron-driven holds, improves the search experience by reducing duplicate bibliographic records, and can speed up cataloging materials with multiple volumes
or elements. Join us to learn how to best leverage parts at your library!
Adult Programming with a Little (or a LOT) of Help from my Friends (Programming)—1
LEU
Marcia Hunt
Learn to network with the people and organizations in your community to create unique
and popular adult programming. With almost 30 years of experience developing awardwinning programming opportunities in Indiana libraries, Marcia will share with you her advice on how to the best you can with what you have, by leveraging community and professional contacts for outstanding and well-attended adult events at your library.
Breakout Session 4
Make it R.E.A.L. (Programming) — 1 LEU
Jeanette Goben (Indiana State House)
Bring success to your programming by teaming up your options. Maximize your resources
by applying the ideas of -Research – Engagement – Access-and -Leverage. This session is
designed to encourage you to think beyond the library walls as you plan and present,
bringing together the components of entertainment, interaction, and education for the best
events ever.
Inventory Made Easy
(Administration) — 1 TLEU
April Gross (FCPL) / Carol Chileen (FCPL)
Last year we did a check-in inventory of all the items in our main library and 2 branches.
Because there isn't an inventory module in Evergreen it was not a simple task but we
found a way to make it simple. We'd like to share what we did with the Evergreen community.
Breakout Session 5
Weeding! (Cataloging) — 1 LEU
Jocelyn Lewis (ISL)
Is your collection stuck back in the Cold War era?
Weeding is a crucial part of library
maintenance. A healthy collection is up-to-date, in good physical condition, and well cataloged. All selectors and staff involved in collection development and maintenance are encouraged to attend.
Where do you see that? (Patron Services) — 1 TLEU
Anna Goben (ISL)
There are many ways to view and access information in the patron record and item status
screens. Please join me for a quick review of some of the most relevant places you may
want to check when you need all of details to resolve a difficult situation.
Breakout Session 6
Grant Writing Tips and Tricks for Evergreen Indiana Libraries (Administration) — 1 LEU
Mindy Tuceryan (DCTPL)
This interactive presentation will provide information about grant writing for small and mid
-sized libraries. Learn about appropriate funding sources, collaborative ideas and common
pitfalls to avoid.
Dealing with Pests (Patron Services) — 1 LEU
Christina Hime (JCPL) / Virginia Hilbert (HMMPL)
Worried about the creepy-crawlies getting into your library? You aren’t alone! The Patron
Services Committee is developing a set of best practices to share around the consortium
and with other consortia in Indiana. As transits continue to increase, we all want to ensure
our materials and libraries are pest-free. This session will talk about what you can do now
to identify warning signs and what you should do to address them.
