Interim Program Lead
Master of Occupational Therapy
The Interim Program Lead will lead the scoping, development, integration and establishment of the
proposed Master of Occupational Therapy program at Bond University.
This includes the
development of the business case and various internal approval documents, a curriculum framework,
some learning resources with a focus on first year subjects, industry engagement and early stage
facilitation of clinical placements for the program at clinical sites. The successful applicant will proactively promote the Bond University Occupational Therapy program, and foster collaborations with
members of the clinical community.

Bond University is located on the Gold Coast, a beautiful, exciting, and dynamic location in which to
live and work. The local university and healthcare sectors, like the region itself, are undergoing
significant growth. Bond University prides itself on its approach to health professional education, with
our emphasis on personalised student support, excellent employment outcomes and a strong
pedagogical focus.
The Faculty of Health Sciences and Medicine has a multi-disciplinary base across a range of programs
including Biomedical Sciences, Exercise Science, Health Sciences, Physiotherapy, Sport Science and
Sport Management. The Medical program is Australia’s first private medical program graduating its
first cohort in December 2009.
The Faculty is housed in a multi-million dollar purpose built education and research facility, and is
planning to capitalise on this investment through significant growth in a number of health
professional programs. To support a growth in programs and student enrolments, the Faculty is
seeking to recruit to a leadership position in the specialised field of Occupational Therapy. The
position will play an instrumental role in the development and early-stage delivery of the Faculty’s
new Masters of Occupational Therapy program.
The Role:
The Interim Program Lead of the Master of Occupational Therapy will play a key role in the
development and planning of the program prior to its proposed commencement in May 2016.
Particular responsibilities will be to ensure that the program development is well informed by current
best practice in Occupational Therapy incorporating a focus on both health and disability sectors and
building off Bond University’s strong profile in management/business. Within this over-arching
responsibility it is expected that the individual will:

Prepare a business case for the program.

Contribute to preparation of required documentation for University approval of the program
through Academic Senate.

Contribute to early-stage curriculum development and liaise with appropriate Faculty staff to
ensure pedagogical alignment of curriculum structures (including assessment) with learning
outcomes, content and learning activities including;
o alignment with existing Bond units of study,
o draft curriculum,
o campus and faculty planning and resource requirements,
o course entry requirements,
o professional continuing education.

In conjunction with appropriate Faculty staff play a lead role in preparing for accreditation
and registration of the program with the Occupational Therapy Council and Occupational
Therapy Board of Australia.


with key clinical providers in the public and private sectors to ensure that:
a clinical placement strategy and model is drafted,
the program is well placed to meet the needs of the diversity of clinical providers,
the potential for a range of clinical placement sites for students is maximised,
discussions on agreements for student placements with clinical providers are
initiated, and
there is broad understanding and recognition of the program within the clinical
environment.

Provide advice to the Faculty on resourcing requirements for the program (including physical,
financial and staff).

Provide advice on effective strategies and contribute to promotion of the program.

Work with the External Engagement and Marketing team to formulate marketing and
recruitment activities as it directly relates to the program.
The Person:
Essential Selection Criteria:
 A Doctoral qualification or the equivalent in a relevant discipline.

Registered as an Occupational Therapist through the Occupational Therapy Board of
Australia.

Familiarity with academic programs in Occupational Therapy as evidenced by one or more of
the following;
o Contributions to teaching and/or assessment within existing Occupational Therapy
programs and,
o Supervisory responsibility for students within a clinical environment.

Familiarity with current and future workforce issues in Occupational Therapy.

Ability to develop and maintain strategic relationships relevant to the program.

Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills.

Ability to work effectively within an outcomes oriented team environment.

Commitment to the University’s policy framework, systems, procedures and structural
arrangements.

Commitment to the AHPRA policy framework for accreditation of health professional
programs.

Demonstrated understanding of equity issues and commitment to providing an inclusive
educational environment.
Desirable
 Familiarity with accreditation procedures of the Occupational Therapy Council and
Occupational Therapy Board of Australia
The commitment:
This role can be either full-time or part-time and the period of employment is negotiable. Ideally this
role would commence May 2015 for a period of 9 months with the possibility of extension depending
on time commitment and mutual agreement. It is not imperative that the successful candidate be
located on the Gold Coast. Much of the work can be completed remotely with occasional visits to
Bond University at critical time points. Remuneration is negotiable and dependent upon qualifications
and experience.
