Broward Center Teen Ambassador Program The Broward Center for the Performing Arts, located in the heart of the Arts and Entertainment District in Downtown Fort Lauderdale, is seeking high school students with an interest in the performing arts for the Broward Center Teen Ambassador Program. Up to twenty-four students will be accepted into this program and will contribute to establishing a vital informational link to their peers and the community regarding the arts both locally and nationally. All applicants for the Broward Center Teen Ambassador program must meet the following criteria: 1) Must be a high school student in Broward, Palm Beach or Dade County as of August, 2015. 2) Must be able to attend one meeting per month at the Broward Center from September, 2015 – May 30, 2016. 3) Must have a B average (unweighted) 4) Must have access to a computer and have at least one social media account (Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, Instagram, etc) in order to promote and review performances. 5) Must be willing and able to attend one meeting per month, one performance per month and write and/or video one review per month. Written reviews are required. All applicants for the Broward Center Teen Ambassador Program: 1) Must complete the Broward Center Teen Ambassador Program application. A parent or legal guardian must sign for any student under the age of 18. 2) Must submit a letter of recommendation from a person who is not a parent or legal guardian of the applicant (e.g., teacher, school counselor, principal, etc.). 3) Must submit a copy of your 2014-2015 school year report card. Benefits of being a Broward Center Teen Ambassador include: Attending various shows and writing reviews for immediate posting, “tweeting” and status updating. A Broward Center Teen Ambassador I.D. Badge. Opportunity to earn at least 10 community service hours each month. Exposure to the behind-the-scenes operations at an arts organization that is consistently ranked among the top 10 venues in the country. Guest speakers, master classes, backstage tours, meet and greets with professionals in various career tracks connected to the arts. Applicants will be notified of acceptance into the program by September 25, 2015 and will be expected to attend two activities each month beginning with the mandatory orientation meeting on Tuesday, October 6, 2015 at 6:00 p.m. at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts. If so, please share the names. 12) Responsibilities of Teen Ambassador Include: Observe and write a review for one Broadway production Observe and write a review for one Florida Grand Opera Observe and write a review for one Miami City Ballet or other dance production Observe and write a review for one Classical Music concert Observe and write a review for one Jazz Music concert Observe and write a review for one Family production Submit one review per month & post comments via social media for all shows attended including on BCPA FB page. Attend one meeting monthly, missing no more than 2 during the Sept – May season. Will you be able to arrange your schedule to prioritize attending meeting and both attending presentations, and completing the required reviews? 13) Please attach a short typed essay (300 words maximum) of why you feel you would be a valuable member of the Teen Ambassador program and of your experiences or feelings for or about live performing arts. The first meeting will be held on Tuesday, October 7, 2015 at 6 pm. This will be a mandatory orientation with parents in attendance.
