Travel Documents
Passport, Visa and Entry Requirements
Valid passports and visas (including multiple Entry Visas, where applicable) are
required.
Please check entry requirements for your destination with your local passport
office or contact the Embassies (Consular Services) of each country on your
sailing itinerary for example: on our Glacier - Alaska cruise you depart from the
United States but the ship visits the Canadian port of Prince Rupert. You will need
to identify if you need a valid visa for Canada and for the United States. If you are
unsure of which country a port belongs to, please check with your travel agent or
call our reservation team on 1800 754 500.
Electronic System for Travel Authorization (ESTA)
The US Department of Homeland Security is changing the process for entering
the United States under the Visa Waiver Program. In the past, holders of a UK or
Irish passport could complete their immigration card (I-94W) onboard their flight/
cruise to the US which would allow them to enter under the VWP as long as they
met the other requirements, such as passport validity, criminal record, etc.
If you wish to travel to the US without a Visitor’s Visa, using the VWP, you will
need to visit this website: https://esta.cbp.dhs.gov
Once there, you can make an application for authorisation to travel and you will be
advised if this has been approved. Some things to note:
Once approved, your ESTA lasts for 2 years, unless certain information changes in
that time.
It does NOT guarantee you admission to the US, this will be determined at the
point of entry, as has always been the case.
Every member of a traveling party must have their own ESTA approval.
Department of Homeland Security recommends that ESTA applications are
submitted no later than 72 hours prior to travel.
If your cruise does not start in the US, but calls at any US ports during the
itinerary or at disembarkation, you will need to complete the ESTA.
For cruise check-in, our guests need to bring a printed copy of their ESTA receipt
and present this at the pier when checking in for a cruise that will call/finish at
any US port.
Entry Requirements to the United States for Visa Waiver Countries (Visa Free
Travel):
Citizens from the Visa Waiver Program (VWP) countries of: Andorra, Australia,
Austria, Belgium, Brunel, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Iceland, Ireland,
Italy, Japan, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Monaco, the Netherlands, New Zealand,
Norway, Portugal, San Marino, Singapore, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, and the
United Kingdom seeking to enter the United States will be required to have in
their possession a passport valid for at least 6 months from their return date of
travel and may travel visa free under the Visa Waiver Program if they meet ALL of
the following requirements:
To enter under the VWP your passport must contain a machine-readable zone
(MRZ) at the foot of the photo page. The MRZ contains 2 lines of text as letters,
numbers and chevrons ( >). If the area is blank the passport is not machinereadable and you need to apply for a visa.
If your passport is issued on or after 26 October 2005 it must have a digitally
applied photograph.
If your passport is issued on or after 26 October 2006 it must be a biometric
passport (e-passport). An e-passport has an integrated chip that holds the same
information printed on the passports data page. (Please check with the issuing
countries passport office).
For more information on the entry requirements for each country on your sailing
itinerary please check with your passport office or Embassy (Consular Services).
Inoculation / Health
As detailed in our brochure, all guests must ensure they are medically fit for
travel. As such, we remind you to check with your physician at least 4 to 6 weeks
before sailing to make sure you are up to date with any required immunizations
or vaccines you may need (including but not limited to certification of yellow
fever vaccination) to ensure you will be permitted to visit each of the exciting
destinations and tours on your itinerary.
For further information, you may contact the Centers for Disease Control &
Prevention’s Traveler’s Health website at www.cdc.gov/travel/
Family Legal Documents - Minors Not Accompanied by a Legal Guardian
Adults who are not the parent or Legal Guardian of any minor child travelling
with them are required to present the child’s valid passport and visa (or certified
copy of the child’s birth certificate) and an original notarized letter signed by
at least one of the child’s parents. The notarized letter from the child’s parent
must authorize the travelling adult to take the child on the specific cruise and
must authorize the travelling adult to supervise the child and permit any medical
treatment that must be administered to the child. If a non-parent adult is a Legal
Guardian, the adult must present a certified certificate of Guardianship with
respect to the child.
General Information
It is the sole responsibility of the guest to identify and obtain all required travel
documents and have them available when necessary. The appropriate valid travel
documents such as passports, visas, inoculation certificate and family legal
documents are required for boarding and re-entry into the United States and
other countries.
Guests who do not possess the proper documentation may be prevented from
boarding their flight / ship or from entering a country and may be subject to fines.
No refunds will be given to individuals who fail to bring proper documentation.
Guest on consecutive sailings must ensure they have the proper documentation
for their cruise holiday.
The requirements described above are required by government regulations and
policies. They are subject to change without notice.
