General Information
Due Date
Summer Work must be completed and turned
in at registration: Monday, 8/10/15 for 12th
graders; Wednesday, 8/12/15 for 11th
graders; Thursday, 8/13/15 for 10th graders.
Failure to do so will result in being dropped
from the class. No late work is accepted.
(Make copies or take pictures of your work
as insurance in case pages get lost)
Textbook
Zumdahl, Chemistry, 9th edition
Textbooks can be picked up from the CCHS
library starting June 19th.
Purpose
The purpose of the summer assignment is to
cover all of the topics in the first three
chapters of the textbook- all of which are
review from first year chemistry- and to
memorize the common ions.
Online Component
Go to Mrs. Fontijn’s CCHS webpage for
instructions. *DO THIS FIRST!
Common Ions Quiz
There is an ions quiz on the first day of class.
Summer Work Test
There is a test over chapters 1-3 during the
first week of school.
Chapter Outlines (must be hand-written)
Include all important topics, vocabulary,
equations as well as examples of complex
problems. Be neat and organized.
Textbook problems
All problems must be completed in order to
receive credit. The solutions are on Canvas.
AP Multiple-Choice Review Questions
Each answer must have a justification
(mathematical work or simple explanation) to
receive credit.
Assignment
Student Information Form (online)
Follow the link on Canvas and complete the
Student Information Form. (5 pts.)
Self-Introduction (online)
Introduce yourself to your teacher and
classmates by posting to the discussion thread
on Canvas. (5 pts.)
Chapter One (requires ~3 hours)
1. Read and outline chapter 1 in your textbook.
(10 pts. possible)
2. Textbook problems: p. 34-40 # 27, 28, 30,
32, 34-37, 40, 68, 74, 79, 80, 92, 112, 113.
(10 pts. for completion- all or nothing)
3. Complete the “AP Multiple-Choice Review
Questions” on pages 41A and 41B.
(10 pts. possible; graded for correctness)
Chapter Two (requires ~4 hours)
1. Read and outline chapter 2 in your textbook.
(10 pts. possible)
2. Textbook problems: p. 74-79 #29, 34, 38,
39, 41, 54, 59, 62, 68, 72, 76, 77, 78, 84, 86,
87, 88, 102, 114.
(10 pts. for completion- all or nothing)
3. Complete the “AP Multiple-Choice Review
Questions” on pages 80A and 80B.
(16 pts. possible; graded for correctness)
4. Memorize the Common Ions.
Chapter Three (requires ~4 hours)
1. Read and outline chapter 3 in your textbook.
(10 pts. possible)
2. Textbook problems: p. 129-132 #52, 54, 56,
68, 74, 76, 81, 86, 90, 96, 101, 106, 112,
115, 120, 122, 124, 126.
(10 pts. for completion- all or nothing)
3. Complete the “AP Multiple-Choice Review
Questions” on pages 137A and 137B.
