Julie Greer Division 4 Councillor Moreton Bay Regional Council P O Box 159 CABOOLTURE QLD 4510 Office : 3480 6705 [email protected] Connect with me on Facebook Cr Julie Greer DIVISIONAL EVENTS @ DECEPTION BAY Two recent joint Division 2 & 4 events held at Deception Bay were a huge success Dive In Movie ... More than 350 people attended this event which was held at the Deception Bay Aquatic Centre on Saturday evening 7 March. The event was postponed from 21 February due to Cyclone Marcia. Families enjoyed a sausage sizzle and popcorn at this inaugural free event which featured the movie Despicable Me 2. Teddy Bears’ Picnic….Teddy Bears galore descended upon The Bay Youth and Sports Centre for the annual Under 5’s Teddy Bears’ Picnic on 11 March. Cr Peter Flannery and myself partnered with the Deception Bay Child and Family Alliance to host this free event for under school-age children in the Bay. Approximately 2000 parents and children attended. The event was a huge success with the many stalls providing heaps of useful information for parents. The children enjoyed all the activities on the stage which included the Fabulous Lemon Drops, the TSI Dancers and the Deception Bay High School marching band who led the Teddy Bears Parade. Free rides and face painting rounded out a great day for all who attended. Brays Road Griffin—Footpath I am happy to advise that Council will be constructing a new two-metre wide concrete footpath in Brays Road. The first stage is from the bridge over the Bruce Highway to the bus stop to the west of Cairns Road, including the pedestrian fence across the overpass. Concurrently design work is being undertaken to extend the work east to Tesch Road. Work will include the construction of the concrete pathway and landscaping works, the installation of a pedestrian safety fence over the bridge and a reconfiguration of the bus stop to meet current standards. Division 4 represents North Lakes, Mango Hill, Griffin, parts of Kallangur and Deception Bay Elizabeth Road Reserve, Griffin Sports Complex - Draft Master Plan Elizabeth Road Reserve will be an important recreation facility in the Griffin area, providing additional necessary capacity for a diverse range of sports and recreational pursuits including nature-based recreation. A large area of the site will be fully rehabilitated to provide essential habitat and a major environmental resource for the community. The draft master plan serves to inform the community on current site issues and future opportunities for development. Council will soon be seeking feedback from the community on the draft master plan via a mail out and information posted on Council’s website. Moreton Bay Rail Link - Update 2015 is set to be a busy year for the Moreton Bay Rail project with construction of the six new stations now well underway and with earth work activities almost complete along the rail corridor. The team is now focussed on starting to lay ballast, sleepers and track from March. From early April 2015 for approximately 3 weeks, a temporary road closure will be in place on Mango Hill Boulevard East near its intersection with Bonnet Parade at Mango Hill. This closure is required to facilitate construction of a new road connection between Mango Hill Boulevard East and the newly constructed road bridge over the rail corridor in this area. Community Parking Management In response to concerns raised by the community and residents, the Moreton Bay Rail project team is working with Council to develop a parking management strategy for parking in streets surrounding the future rail stations. A number of parking control measures and proposed changes to on-street parking are being developed to assist local residents and businesses by ensuring commuters do not take advantage of parking near stations. In the coming months, the project team will be seeking feedback from residents on the proposed parking management measures. John W Mott Reserve Kallangur - Footbridge Council will be renewing the 15-metre long footbridge behind 10 Honeysuckle Court Kallangur. The scope of works includes strengthening of the four timber girders, restoration of bridge piers and supports, provision of a new bridge deck and anti-rot treatment. The objective is to ensure safe, pedestrian access from Honeysuckle Court across to the parklands. Clean Up Australia Day Thank you to all the volunteers who participated in Clean Up Australia Day in March. There were 117 registered sites across the Moreton Bay Region - (27 Schools and Early Learning Centres and 90 Community sites) including 10 sites in Division 4. It was great to see the community spirit in keeping our region clean and tidy. The total amount of litter collected was approximately 60 tons and included car batteries, tyres, carpet, chairs, fencing, bricks, mattresses, car parts, timber, drums etc. Mango Hill State School It was great to attend the parade for the 2015 Leaders at Mango Hill State School on 6 March. Congratulations to all the student leaders and I wish them well for the year.
