Missouri Valley Conference Golf 1818 Chouteau Ave. • St. Louis, MO 63103 • (314) 444-4326 For Immediate Release - May 7, 2015 • Contact: Mike Kern Men’s Golf Scholar-Athlete Team Announced Southern Illinois senior Wade Thompson headlines the 2015 MVC Men’s Golf Scholar-Athlete First Team, announced by the league office today. Thompson earned the 2015 MVC Elite 18 Award at this year's championship. Golf sports information directors in the conference voted on the team, comprised of 12 total golfers. Six golfers are on the first-team unit. Thompson, who earned the MVC's Elite 18 Award by achieving the highest GPA among the Top 18 finishers at the league championship, is joined on the First Team by teammate Drew Novara, Wichita State teammates Grant Bennett and Alec Heinen, Bradley's Lyle Burns, and Missouri State's Mark Karlsen. Bobby Jacobs and Danny Masrin of Bradley, Will Knights of Evansville, Devin Leland and Dane Worley of Drake, and Glenn Walls of UNI received honorable mention selection, by virtue of receiving a minimum number of votes. The criteria for the MVC scholar-athlete team parallels the CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of America) standards for academic Capital One Academic All-America® program. Nominees must have at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average (4.0 scale), while the student-athletes must have reached sophomore athletic and academic standing at their institutions and must have participated in at least 50 percent of his team’s rounds or played at the MVC Championship. Wichita State won the 2015 Missouri Valley Conference Men's Golf Championship (its eighth-straight league title), at The Club at Porto Cima in Sunrise Beach, Mo.
