June 2015 Blurb - Cedar Lake Community Club
THE BLURB cedarlakecc.com ••cedarlakela.com • www.clpoinc.com cedarlakecc.com cedarlakela.com • www.clpoinc.com UPCOMING EVENTS The CLCC Pub is open every Friday Night! July July 7th – Yoga Workshop 7pm at the Clubhouse July 9th – CLLA Cold Treat Social July 18th – Cedar Lake Day—games on East beach and BBQ at the Clubhouse. July 24th – CLLA Family-friendly Pizza Party / Happy Hour. September September 7th – Boat Regatta/Dessert on the Docks September 12th – Cedar Lake Annual Pig Roast September 18th – CLPO Annual Meeting July 2015 President’s Message This month has been a busy one for Cedar Lakers. The fishing derby was a huge success with some record-breaking fish being caught by a number of participants. Club founder Henry Patterson was on hand to give out the awards to the proud winners. The race around the lake was also awesome; as was the Hub Lakes track meet held at Mountain Lakes. The weather was perfect for both events, just the way runners like it… no rain and not too hot. I want to thank all the organizers of these events for their time and the participants for their enthusiasm. Now that the damn is done being raised, the cosmetic work around the beach is moving along toward completion. It’s going to be beautiful I’m sure. New fencing and road resurfacing should soon be completed. And, if you haven’t noticed, the CLPO is also in the process of putting in a new cement boat ramp at the East beach. The cement has been poured and we just have to give it some time to set and cure. Should make getting our boats in and out a lot easier and safer. I hope everyone is looking ahead to Cedar Lake day on July 18 th. The fun begins at noon. Be sure to get your kids signed up for the games on the beach then come across the street for a complimentary BBQ afterwards at the Clubhouse. Finally, for anyone who hasn’t gotten around to it yet, please send in your dues, especially if you or your kids are planning on participating in any sports teams. Beyond the basic fairness of paying your dues, it’s also a potential liability issue for the club to have non-members participating. At $125 a year per family (and $65 for seniors), it’s money well spent. Your dues also help support our sports teams and keep the Clubhouse running and looking so nice. September 26th – Cedar Lake Golf Outing Well that’s it for now. Until next month, have fun, be safe and don’t forget to wear sunscreen. October Bob Vidal October 3rd – CLFC Charter Bluefish Trip, Belmar Marina, 7am. The CLCC would like to acknowledge the beautiful carpentry of Bill Nowicky, who crafted the lovely bench pictured below in honor of Betty Ruiz. Betty moved to Delaware last year after acquiring a lifetime of memories on Cedar Lake. CLCC President Cedar Lake Property Owners Update With Summer in full swing, the swimming instruction program and swim team are up and running with over 50 children enrolled in the programs. Enrollments are still being accepted and swim team participants are still needed. Contact Sara Bias at [email protected] for information on lessons and swim team or Susan Pfeil at 973-627-1680 for swim team information. Special thanks to Sean Mackay, Adam Gibbons, the Bill LaFlesh gang and Carmagnola boys, Chris and Michael, for their help in putting in the turn boards for the season. As a reminder, membership and boat tags are required at the beaches, floats and on the lake. The lifeguards are authorized by the Board to check all persons entering the beaches for valid badges. Anyone without a badge will be asked to leave. If you have not completed an application or have not received your tags, please contact Pat Strother, 973 -586-6334. Applications can be put in the CLPO mailbox at 91 Cedar Lake East, which is located near the stone pillar next to the landing. In order to receive your tags, at least half of your Share of Expense must be paid for the year. The East Beach is open for business. Work will continue on the road with a final paving coat, installation of a new fence, a new guardrail, and East Beach wall and landscaping as part of the dam project. Underground electrical installation for receptacles and column lighting as well as a sprinkler system will also start in early July. The majority of the work should be completed by mid to end of July. Your understanding and cooperation during this project is appreciated. The CLPO would like to welcome new stockholders Shawn and Kimberly Smith, 100 Cedar Lake E., and Oliver Turner, 64 Cedar Lake W. The CLPO Board would like to thank Jon Randall for his service and dedication to Cedar Lake for 10 years as a CLPO Board member. Jon’s service to the community can be reflected in the many landscaping projects and other improvements over the years. Interested in serving your community? Consider becoming a CLPO Board Director. Please contact Pat Strother, Secretary, at the CLPO Office at 973-586-6334 for a nomination card or for more information. Nomination cards must be turned into Pat by July 10 in order to be placed on the September ballot. CLPO Update …...continued……... Summer is intended to be a fun time at the beaches and floats but not at the expense of the safety of residents or impacting the function of the lifeguards. If rules are not followed at the beaches, you will be asked to leave. The CLPO would like to remind property owners that drinking of alcoholic beverages at any CLPO property (beaches, floats, and landings) is not permitted unless it is a sanctioned event approved by the CLPO. CLPO lifeguards have been authorized by the Board to enforce the rules and regulations concerning the safe use of the beaches and swimming area for all. They are not babysitters. Please be responsible for your children, guests and your children’s guests. Parents please respect the guards when they ask you or your children to adhere to the rules of the swimming area/beach. In addition, the use of the beaches for parties must be arranged with at least one week’s advance notice through the CLPO Secretary. Party tags may be obtained for a fee and will be issued at the Board’s discretion. The person who requests the party tags must hire a certified lifeguard (through the Swimming and Water Safety Chairperson) for every 15 people attending. For everyone’s consideration and safety, your cooperation is appreciated. Speeding and Cedar Lake roads don’t mix. Please be cautious and courteous while traveling through your community. With school out and summer here, drivers should be particularly alert to bikers, walkers, joggers and beach goers utilizing the roads. APPEAL UPDATE Board of Adjustment Appeal Date Hearing is Wednesday July 1st at 7pm at the Town Hall The CLPO is continuing with its appeal to the Denville Board of Adjustment concerning the building permits issued for the renovation and reconstruction work being conducted at 30 Cedar Lake West. While continuing with the appeal, the CLPO is also in discussions exploring potential options for a resolution of this dispute. Board members along with CLPO attorneys from Dolan and Dolan are making every effort to resolve this issue in a manner that best serves all CLPO stockholders. Tickets are available from Susan Richardson for the July 3rd Joey Bella Memorial Fund Beefsteak Dinner. Put a group together and enjoy a great evening under the tent for a great cause.
