Skin and Wound Assessment
Team (SWAT) Nurse Workshop
(4 Days)
Workshop/Program Aim:
Ensure that evidenced-based practices in wound management and
pressure injury prevention are applied throughout CALHN.
Provide peer support relationship to other health professionals to develop
their wound and or pressure injury knowledge
Maintain a SWAT Nurse portfolio within your professional discipline
Promote Patient Centred Care approach for wound management
Learning Outcomes
Be aware of current evidence-based practices in wound management, skin
integrity and pressure injury prevention.
Complete a comprehensive wound assessment using HEIDIE & TIME
assessment methods
Using the comprehensive wound assessment skills to inform wound
product choices.
Increased knowledge in a variety of wound management clinical specialty
areas (complex wounds, burns, vascular ulcers, surgical wounds,
dermatology, hyperbaric).
Become a resource person on current wound practices to patients and
other health professionals.
Promote and utilise the new Wound Consultancy Pathways throughout
CALHN

WoundsWest Pressure Injury Module (Moodle)
Aseptic Technique eLearning Module (Moodle)
Eligibility/Entry requirements
Registered and Enrolled Nurses interested in becoming a SWAT Nurse within
their ward area.
Must be willing to attend educational updates to keep current evidenced-based
wound care practices.
Actively participate in a minimum of (6) Pressure Injury & SWAT Nurse
Meetings over a 12 month period
Willing to participate in clinical audits relating to skin integrity, Pressure Injuries
& wounds as directed
