BREAKFAST IS THE MOST IMPORTANT MEAL OF THE DAY
Studies show that breakfast is the most important meal of the day, especially for children. Eating school breakfast improves
children’s educational performance, behavior, and health.
WHY INCREASE SCHOOL BREAKFAST PARTICIPATION
• Children who eat a complete breakfast make fewer mistakes and work faster on math tests than children who eat a partial
breakfast.
• Children who eat breakfast at school, closer to class and test-taking time, perform better on standardized tests than those
who skip breakfast or eat breakfast at home.
BREAKFAST IMPROVES CHILDRENS’ OVERALL HEALTH
• Children who eat breakfast tend to have more adequate nutrient intake than children who do not.
• Children and adolescents who eat breakfast are more likely to maintain a healthy body weight.
KINDERGARTEN ROUND UP---YEE HAW!
Families of new Kindergarten students can come by the office and register their child starting Friday, March
6th from 9:00-3:00. Your child must be 5 by July 15th. You will need to bring proof of residency, your child’s
birth certificate and current immunization records. Please share this info with friends in your neighborhood.
Families of pre-school age children are invited to an Open House on Tuesday, March 3rd from 4:30-6:30. This is for
new, 3 and 4 year old students to find out how the pre-school registration process works and if your child is eligible.
The Chatfield Pre-School teachers will be at school to answer all your questions.
Principal Points To Ponder
It’s that time again – standardized testing is here! We will be administering our tests beginning on February
23rd up until May 19th. Your child’s teacher will be sharing specific testing dates with you.
As you know, we have been busy preparing and reinforcing the skills necessary for students to demonstrate
their learning. Parents also play an important role in helping students give their best performance on these
important tests.
Even though these assessments are a snapshot—one single perspective – it is important that our students
have every advantage to do their very best.
We don’t want to cause test anxiety, rather we want our students to be as prepared as possible.
There are many ways in which you can help your child put his/her best foot forward.
The following guidelines can help set our students up for success:
1. Make sure your child gets a good night sleep, eats breakfast, and gets to school on time.
2. Emphasize the concepts of perseverance and effort in the testing context.
3. Most of all, express your love for and confidence in your child!
Tests are something we encounter throughout our lives. Let’s help our Cheetahs learn to
approach tests as prepared, confident, and effective young scholars.
Love, Mrs. Stapher
TEST TAKING TIPS FROM OUR CLASSROOM TEACHERS!
Parents – this is a friendly reminder that the PARCC assessment will begin in February. Please make sure your child is
here at school on time, and that they eat a well-balanced breakfast. We have been working hard on Test Taking
Strategies in the classroom. Please make sure you go over the following with your child:
*Read all directions
*Read all passages carefully
*Read the question and Think Deeply about it
*Go back and re-read the text
*Before choosing an answer read all the choices first
*Parts of questions build on each other – so please double check
*Re-read the question
*Write complete sentences-re-state the question in your introduction when typing your response
*Make sure you have a conclusion
*Make sure your answer covers everything the question is asking
*Keep all facts correct – do not add details in your answer that are not in the text…unless you are asked to infer
*DO YOUR BEST-WE KNOW YOU WILL!!
